I'm very lucky. I've never really earned much between moving around when married & then being a single parent. But I have always been a creaking gate so never really ill & I managed to get some savings behind me by working for 6 years after I could retire, so no mortgage & state pension for only the last year. I retired 12 years ago & it is only been the last 15 months that my savings are starting to be needed. Mind you if I do more things like just deciding to have solar panels fitted my sister is likely to be rushing me to the dementia clinic.

- When bought house £315,995 mortgage debt and end date at start = October 2039 - now £232,244
- OPs to mortgage = £12,148 Interest saved £5,738 to date
Fixed rate 3.85% ends October 2030
