Happy Birthday to your maw 👏🥳

Sorry to hear about another fall 🙁

I know you can get equipment for disabilities VAT free, not sure re the shower but don’t see why not.

Have thought of contacting Occupational Therapy re the shower . Our local council are stil funding some diability aids although the cost of living payments has meant funds are limited.
No idea what it's like north of the border.

    Thanks lucille :)

I have hopefually tracked down someone to give me a quote to replace badly broken concrete round a manhole cover in my path next to the drive.
It is ever becoming more dangerous sadly so needs must.

    PIP today.
I have transferred more money into the shower fund.
Does anyone know if it might be possible for me to not pay VAT on it as it is going into a wet room?

Next month will be easier as have family birthdays in Jan & Feb. My maw is 81 today  :)
No more family birthdays til Sept when my DS is 30!!
By that time he will be hopefully be doing his probationary year, all going well & hopefully the pay dispute will be settled which will be good for him!
It depends on what you are having done.

Here is the text from HMRC and I have added the link:

    Bathrooms, washrooms and lavatories

You’ll not have to pay VAT if you’re having a new bathroom, washroom or lavatory installed or an existing bathroom, washroom or lavatory, extended or adapted if the work’s being done to help you because of your disability.

    Examples include:

    • having a bath removed and replaced with a shower or walk-in bath if, because of your disability, you have difficulty getting in and out of a traditional bath
    • having a bathroom installed on the ground floor if, because of your disability, you’re not able to get upstairs
    • altering an existing bathroom to allow wheelchair access around the room

It does not include having a new bathroom installed or existing bathroom re-fitted, repaired or redecorated as a general home improvement.

So if you were anticipating having to use a wheelchair at some point and having your shower adapted to accommodate it, you could instruct the builder to not charge you VAT. NB there is no option for HMRC to refund you if you pay VAT, The supplier and fitter should not charge you if you meet the criteria
