A close friend of mine couldn't get a business loan in the late 1990's without a man's name on it as well. She had to decide between her husband to be and her father, she went for the husband as thought her father co-signing would be too 'traditional', she's from an Asian background. Cue 20 years later and a divorce and she had to pay her ex out half the business even though he had nothing to do with it. So very unfair and shows how sexist society still is.

Hard to believe in some ways it was 40 years ago.

In both senses - 40 years is only the average working life, but hard to believe things were so old fashioned. I remember having all my interesting work taken off me when I was pregnant because my manager was convinced I would not return afterwards. I successfully appealed his annual review marking when I did return under discrimination rules "a temporary dip in performance because I was on maternity leave for 4 months and he took all the productive work away and gave it to my colleague".

I do remember when women needed their father or a husband to sign agreements. It sounds odd now but in the 60s and 70s it was common to rent a radio, Later a TV too.When my first husband and I married in 1969 we rented both but he had to sign the forms. It took me a few years to realise it was cheaper to buy radios and tvs but the fact the company would repair or replace the items influenced us when we were starting out on a budget.

I joined Women's Lib early influenced by Helen Reddy's I am woman. My first husband was a lovely caring man but I believed men and women should be equal.

2nd husband was a nightmare but the attitude had changed . I had wonderful poice officers and a couple of judges who after 2 attempts finally sent him away with another injunction and a lasting power of arrest. He had to move at least 20 miles away and never come near us again unless he wanted a long prison sentence. That did get shut of him,

My nan and grandad got a brand new council home in 1933 - it had a bath upstairs!  The toilet was outside the back door, but it had a little garden.  Unfortunately, it was by a railway that led to Liverpool Docks, and a tarworks factory and a bridge over the railway that carried a canal, so it was near a lot of legitimate air raid targets.  Damaged, but still standing - I saw it 4 years ago.

My mum rented a TV and a washing machine from Radio Rentals. She thought it was a waste of money to buy 🤣 When we tried to get our first mortgage Mr SA was turned down by his bank as he was only 19. We then went to a broker and had no problems.

Another thing.  A friend from school has been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer.
Would like to send her a wee something.
Any ideas? Not flowers or inspirational quotes.

Pre planted tubs - local garden centre or nursery. Our local nursery do them for £10.99. For the friend, a pamper box from Etsy? Bought one for DIL for her birthday and she loved it.
