We no longer have a proper cobbler in town just Timpsons who are very expensive and mainly send the work away to be done. They replaced a broken zip in dds expensive boots she'd had for years. They had an orthotic insole and were available in different calf sizes. She'd had them for years and they were very comfortable. They insisted they had to replace both zips send the boots away and they would be ready for collection in 3 weeks. Went to pick them up , two cheap zips in a different shade of brown . Poor stitching and a £90 bill. I complaine to head office but it seems no one gets any joy there. They now charge upfront.. They'd asked me for £30 when I handed them over then another £60 when I picked them up. Never again , If there hadn't still been a lot of wear left in them and they were such a perfect fit for dd I'd have thrown them at him and walked away.
There are two proper cobblers a few  miles away. I went to one and he looked at them and said Timpsons? He replaced the zips perfectly matching and good quality for £20 while we waited. That's where I go now.

Better for you and your Ma to stay home in the snow and keep safe. The weather will improve and better neither of you risk your lives driving in bad conditions. It's hard but better safe than sorry.

You may already know this but until I watched Staged I didn't know DT has a tiny tardis in his garden. That made me smile. Bet there were times he wished it was full size and he could fire it up and take off away from lockdown and it's challenges.

Our dry cleaners offer a sewing service and it includes leather (because they replaced the zip in my jacket and made an invisible mend patch), if that is worth you exploring up there.

I think the Police are reviewing some of the enforcement measures where common sense was not a feature but also looking to get tougher with flagrant breaches
