Specsavers sell used frames

Maybe this would be an interesting topic for BBC Watchdog - anyone know Ann Robinsons e mail address ? - i'm sure I have it somewhere but damned if I can find it without my glasses !!
In any event glasses chosen from display are just that "display" and at the point of purchase you should perhaps state under no circumstances do you want an "ex display" pair without there being some adjustment in the purchase price to take this into account0 -
I was the OP on this thread...interesting to see it revived and to see that some people are equally as surprised by Specsavers practice of selling display frames as new. Though it sounds like this is not standard across all Specsavers branches.0

....because when somebody goes back into the shop insisting wrongfully that the pair they were supplied with is not the correct shade or colour, as you did, it wastes everybody's time. This way, picky customers who find non-existent problems with their order can be quickly put right!0 -

Now that's just plain silly. You've read my original post and leapt to conclusions. I didn't "insist" that they'd given me the correct colour. I went back to check they'd given me the correct colour, not "insist" on anything.
I'm sure you don't really think they've made this a policy just in case a customer comes back to query anything about the frames they chose. In fact, Specsavers are quite happy to help if you're not happy with your glasses for whatever reason. That part of their service I have no criticism of. It's the policy of doling out display frames that I think is shady practice.0 -
My point still stands though. You went back with an idea in your head that these were the wrong shade or whatever. The assistant was able to immediately prove that the shade or colour was not only correct but EXACTLY the same as you tried on as, of course, it was indeed EXACTLY the same pair!
Had this not been the case, you'd presumably have insisted on looking through lots of different frames, trying to find the non-existent shade you thought you'd seen previously.
This practice has enabled the company to offer you exactly what you chose. No dispute.
I would suggest that this policy was implemented to deal with fussy customers like yourself who look for problems which don't exist.0 -
I use Boots Opticians and I remember on one occasion they checked the stock (online with their stock control) and asked me whether I would mind having the display frames, because they didn't have that frame in stock. Apart from this, I think the frame I tried on has always gone back onto the rack and I've been given a new pair when I collected them.
I'll check this time though in case they have also changed their practice.0 -

Lets put it another way then >>>
Mr Whitegoods goes into Specsavers and chooses a pair of specs
"Now Mr Whitegoods, having chosen from our display section would you like us to use these display uncleaned specs frames which have been man handled tried on umpteen times dropped and bent as your new spectacle frames - or would you like us to get a brand new pair from the stock room ?"
Think we all know which ones you would choose - don't we !!!0 -
if you want new frames then ask the optician if they have a new frame in this design and if they have they will fetch them for you
I wear varifocal glasses and when i pick up a frame off the display i am taken to a booth and the lenses are marked with centre of eye and measurements where the lens will be positioned for best vision
the fact that they are marking up the pair i picked off the self would suggest to me that that is the pair that was going to be made up to my prescription
as has been said this is standard practice for any optician that i have ever been to and if you want new frames then ask for new frames0 -
if you want new frames then ask for new frames
I would have thought it was simple - if I am paying for "new" frames I shouldn't have to ask for "new" frames.
If I was paying for display frames that would be different - if you can't see that, may I, with the utmost respect, ask that you put your glasses on !!0
