Yes I've had glasses before and now I assume this is what has happened before as well. I've only ever had glasses from Specsavers though, which is why I asked whether this was standard throughout the industry.0

I ordered new glasses from Boots yesterday. I specifically asked if I would get a new frame (not the display one) and they said yes.0

I use an independent optician and have always had the frame off the rack.2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000

Thanks, that's good to hear, maybe I'll try Boots next time. I wasn't too enamoured with the overall service from Specsavers this time. They didn't even bother cleaning the glasses before they gave them to me. They were so manky I could barely see through them.0 -
I guess it varies then starrystarry. But if SS said that your frame would be new, then it should have been.
Have you challenged them?0 -
Never buy from the high street, I don't know why people still do it. Half price on the web, no quibble returns, free trials.0

No, they didn't say it was new, I just assumed it would be. I told them I wasn't happy about it when I was in the store today but there's not much I can do about it. The glasses themselves seem to be fine, I don't want a refund or anything, I'm just not impressed with the overall service. If that's the way they do business, that's fine, it's up to them I guess. I'll do what lovinituk did next time, and ask specifically whether I'll be getting a new frame or a display frame.0 -

I got mine half price anyway as I also get contact lenses from them.0 -

Sorry to pick on your maths, but 200 shops x 200 frames x twice yearly = 80,000 wasted frames yearly. Guess who ends up paying for this overhead?0 -
Not very convenient when you want to try on half the shop because you haven't got a clue what to go for!! Would cost a fortune sending them back all the time and could take days rather than 30 minutes.

In that case try them on in the high-street then order online, or use the website's preview functions where you upload a your photo and overlay with various frames, to get an initial idea of what to do for. Contact lenses from the high street are an equally big rip-off so you likely didn't get the bargain you thought you did.
Last time I ordered online (Glasses Direct) it cost under £200 for two pairs of specs with designer frames and high index fairly strong lenses, one set clear and the other sunglasses tint. I got a quote from a well-known high street shop and the price was £319 for one pair. That was untinted too! High street tint £29. Online - free.0
