Of course! Had a sight test and contact lens test when I moved to Boots from Specsavers this year
I meant that I hope this isn't the first test in twenty years.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Common practice.
Specs are fitted on Point of sale in some cases so that when the lenses are fitted the measurements match up. Particularly important in certain lenses ie Zeiss or if you have a complicated or high rx.
At high sales time I sent of 5 or 6 of the same frames a day to be glazed. Highly unlikely that "your" frame would have been tried on by many!Member for a long time only recent poster

The most expensive pair I ever did was about £1500. She did go on to buy another £1200 pair.Member for a long time only recent poster

I was wondering that too, Never known glasses that price anywhere in my life.
BTW, yes it is commonplace for the opticians to use glasses 'off the racks.'(•_•)

I would have to side with OP here. I just bought glasses from Spec Savers and spent 205 in total (they opened the ‘secret’ cupboard behind the display glasses and pulled out brand new frames), I would definitely expect a brand new pair of frames and would expect explicit disclosure if they were a display pair. Some posters have compared glasses frames to cloths  this does not make sense to me... an item of clothing gets its wear-and-tear while it’s being worn (not being put on or taken off) – glasses are the complete opposite, they do very little when worn but experience wear and tear when being put on or taken off. OP is not being picky.0

Weird... when I got my glasses from SS I asked why it took so long before I could pick them up and they said two parts - we order the frame and we get the glass made to your prescription.Misc debts - £5,000 | Student loan - £9,000 | Mortgage - £180,000

Don't think asda and tesco do this. Have had glasses from both and both times I have tried them on they have been obviously twisted. The sales people on both occasions took a code number and put the display glasses back. Needless to say my glasses weren't twisted when I got them. Perhaps this was just because they were so obviously out of shape. I will remember to specifically ask next time though!0

I agree. Glasses frames and cloths are completely different. You can't wipe your kitchen worktops with glasses frames.0
