It's never really caused me any problems - I was angry that they hadn't trusted me enough to know that they were my 'proper' parents and nothing would ever change that but I never felt that it changed anything about my identity.
It did explain a few things though - in my teens I was very interested in genetics (Mendel and his perishing peas!) and when I started asking about my parents blood groups (mines one of the less common ones) and checking eye colours etc. several of my genetics books suddenly went missing. I found out that my adoptive brother had got rid of them. Also , up until I was around 6 or 7, we used to go every month to Highgate Cemetary and put flowers on what I was told was my sisters grave. We stopped once I could read - they were afraid I would realise that I couldn't possibly have a sisters just a few months older than me.:)
My 'handover' was done in Southend and all I know is that my original name was Anne Howard. The baby who died was Carole Wendy and I was given her middle name as my first name and Anne as my middle name.
I'm sure that things like this were very common then and quite a few of us are not quite who we think we are. God knows how all the family kept a lid on it as everyone knew about it.
Im very touched reading your story :A and you have an amazing attitude to what happened to you. I am sure you are so right though about a lot of people not being quite who they think they are.0 -

Yesterday we put up notices in work to state we would be observing the 2 minute silence.
No customers at 11am & we stood by our desks in silence.
11.01 in bustles a customer - starts reciting what she wants to me.
I point to the notice :shhh:
She then proceeded to tell me that the silence had finished as she had been to Cenotaph & she wanted serving :mad:
I :shhh::shhh::shhh::shhh::shhh: again
When 11.02 arrived I then served her
