Well Christmas day started early yesterday, DS woke at 5am and went to the loo then lay in bed with his light on listening to Planet Rock, so I went in to see him and he said "my brain woke me up". He hadn't even touched his stocking which had a very cute teddy sitting enticingly in the top. I turned his light off and told him to go back to sleep, managed to get back to sleep myself until he came in at 6.30, having stayed awake all that time in his bed not opening his stocking - bless him.
Had dinner at parents' house, then all the men went to the park with their new toy helicopters (unfortunately one of the helicopters had to be retrieved from the river, that's one way to ruin suede shoes). Got totally spoilt, there were more presents there than at our frugal house, DS didn't know what to do with himself!
I received the biggest set of Clinique toiletries I ever saw, which will see me well past my birthday in September, what a treat.
So, DS and DH are in the dining room playing Monopoly, I'm resting my head with a cup of tea and my diary update.
I've had a peek at some sales but there really isn't anything we need, apart from school shoes which will undoubtably be full price.
Can we get to the January payday (5 weeks ) buying just food and fuel, and absolute essentials (ie school shoes)?
    I have paid £700 onto amex, £150 onto cap1.
We've got the trip to visit relatives sunday to Tuesday - they live 3.5 hours away so there'll be a bit spent then, then staying at friends over new years - we could take the bottle of Prosecco DH won at work in the raffle instead of buying a bottle of champagne.
DH's expenses in, plus my wages, plus the £35 owed by SIL for their half of mum's present.
I also got to the threshhold for 0nepoll, so that £40 will arrive sometime January, good timing!

My cousin is my nan's carer and my aunt pops in regularly. The rest of the family seems happy enough with the arrangement, however it seems they are aware that nan's gone downhill a little recently.

We visited my aunt for lunch on Monday, nan was there too. it was lovely to see the family. I think my sisters were being pessimistic and over-reacted to my nan saying things. The two halves of the family are not in regular contact so it's hardly surprising there are communication problems. The good thing about this week is that my sister spent time with nan, my aunt and cousins, so hopefully she will feel good for spending time with her extended family.

The hotel was a good price but breakfast added an extra £36. for the three of us. We also paid for dinner for 5 on Sunday, £6.40 for the bridge toll(!) and bought a new hoodie and thermal socks for DS from MrT.

No sale purchases so far :) and I'm not looking, either.

Delivery from MrT came to £40 today. Supposed to be going to visit friends tomorrow for NYE but DH hurt his back a few days ago running after a toy helicopter...
  • Love it. Boys and their toys.

Not only is DH suffering with his back, my dad is too - ended up at hospital last week, his was in so much pain. We were all fearing for the worst what with his bone cancer. Then DH told me dad had run the entire length of the park after this toy helicopter. The consultant said no, his scan was okay, it was just because dad was getting old!

NSD today, and may there be many more to follow.
I should get my beanpole of a 7yr's feet measured though - tomorrow morning before it gets busy in the shops. I also need to buy him 8yr old school tops.
New Year's resolution is stop drinking coke.
I have a few items to ebay but I'm sure they'll sell for more if I wait a while, it's probably a buyers market this month.
Wow you can get a 4 berth caravan for less than £2k these days!

Ideas for spending my xmas cheque from nan:

    • Pay £1,000 off amex. yup, good idea.
    • buy a welsh blanket (sentimental, but a nice investment, I love the Melin T. ones)
    • buy a tv for the tv-less lounge (struggling with that one seeing as I don't watch much telly, it'd be for the boys really. nah.)
    • Spend £500 on upkeep of the mini, probably sorting the rust out.
    • Give £200 to DH towards sidecar (grandad had a sidecar, I'm sure he'd approve)
    • Put some money into holiday fund, considering a cheap caravan.
I could spend this money seven times over.

Must admit, I researched how much the mini would sell for this morning, and it would get about £3,000. If I could find the right owner for it I think I would sell him. It's been on my mind a lot recently, and I spoke to dad about it. He sees sense in selling it and using the funds to buy a caravan, or possibly a folding camper - something a bit more weatherproof than our tent.

And then I watched For the Love of Cars and fell in love with minis all over again :rotfl:Being sentimental costs money.

Ordered a few pairs of school shoes for DS online last night from Next, he now has the option of not going to the shops, the compromise is that they're not the ones he likes, but tough, these are cheaper! DH was shocked that school shoes cost so much, the last ones were £42! Also ordered age 8 polo shirts, much needed socks for DH, and a reduced bra for myself £5.
Sun's out this morning, need kitty litter which I'll buy locally and paint for the shelf unit in the dining room which I'm refurbishing. Sister gave me it last year for nothing and the money for the paint can come from the house fund.
  • Have you decided what to do with the cheque yet? It'd fairly knock the stuffing out of the Amex bill.
