cheap hotel in Cardiff

Options
I am not sure this is the right section for this question.

I have some tickets for the Rugby in Cardiff next October.
It is on Thursday the 1st of October 2015.

I am trying to find a cheap place to stop.

Premier in is up to £118 a night already and other places can't even be booked ..

Does anyone know any decent places that won't blow the bank ?

You could try the Travlodges in Cardiff, you can usually book 325 days in advance so keep an eye out for your date being added, currently booking is up until 21st Sept so you date should be live in 10 days.

For Premier Inn there are no saver rooms loaded yet as too far in advance so keep checking on that site too. Although if it is a popular event they may not do saver rooms.

There is an Ibis budget hotel in Cardiff that does £32 rooms.
Edit just checked and the hotel is booked up from 30/9-2/10/15.

It looks like a lot of people have booked hotel rooms already as the Holiday Inn Cardiff central is very expensive and the cheaper Cardiff Bay etc are not available. IMO your best bet is to look at Travelodge hotels early morning on Wed 12 Nov and book if they have reasonable rates. We stayed at the Cardiff Bay one and it was nice and not far from the city centre.

I stayed in Travelodge when I went to Cardiff although not the one right in the centre. Wish I hadn't though as had car broken into and had to drive all the way from Cardiff to Essex with plastic over the passenger side window and the noise, even going slow, was horrific.

The only time have ever had a vehicle broken into in over 30 years

Cardiff hotels fill up very quickly on rugby weekends and cost the earth

It depends on your preferences, but you could look at Newport, 14 mins away from the centre of Cardiff by train.

The Travelodge and the Queens hotel (Wetherspoons) are 2 mins walk from Newport station

    Thanks for the advice.

I will try travelodge on the morning of the 12th and if not I will keep looking for options ..I would prefer to be within staggering distance of the city really.

Book a Premierinn on a refundable rate, then watch prices. If they drop book a room elsewhere and cancel the original Premierinn booking. As it is a game day don't expect prices to drop.

Hi there - you can always ring the Visit Cardiff tourism team to help you book. Also Visit Caerphilly too (I used to work there). what we found was as soon as the autumn internationals started then it would jog people's memory to book up for the following year. HTH

Is it easy to get a train from Swansea ..would that be any good ?

I could have a few beers in Swansea after I watch the game in Cardiff ?

Or won't it make much difference ?

Rather than looking for the big chains, as everyone does, try a few independent B&B's that may not have on line booking, but ye olde telephone booking. Driving round Cardiff I often see small hotels/B&B's.
