**Two More Postal Strikes **

Thought I'd give you all a heads up as Ive just been told by my friend (a postman) about more disruption to the postal service.
"News
19 July 2007 Two Weeks of Disruption Planned for all Postal Services
The Communication Workers’ Union has announced an escalation of the level of strike action in Royal Mail. Although postal workers will individually take 2 days of strike action in the next two weeks, the strikes announced mean that there will be two weeks of continuous disruption to mail services. The strikes call out separate functions nationally on different days and the timing is aimed at maximising the impact on mail.
The clear escalation of the strike has been called because Royal Mail have made it clear they are unwilling to engage in any meaningful negotiations
“We have contacted Royal Mail leaders on copious occasions, consistently asking for negotiations to find a resolution to the dispute. Royal Mail management continue to ignore the union and its’ workforce. This is absolutely unacceptable”, said Dave Ward, CWU Deputy General Secretary.
General Secretary Billy Hayes added “stepping up strike action is the inevitable response to an employer that refuses to take the strike seriously. Again, we are calling on Royal Mail’s business leaders to enter fresh and meaningful negotiations aimed at settling the dispute. The fact that they continue to refuse to do so is a failure to their workforce and the public”.
In addition to strike action, the CWU are stepping up their campaign to make pressure groups and the public aware that postal workers are taking this action in an attempt to defend and protect postal services."

My friend says :
"Royal mail workers will be on 24 hour strike on the 27/7/7 - 28/7/7, 1900 - 1900
this means NO DELIVERIES on Saturday 28th of July
In addition, another strike will be held on 2/8/7 - 3/8/7, from 0300 - 0300
this means NO DELIVERIES on Thursday 2nd of August"
I'll post any more info as I get it.

Maybe you should try looking at the way they are being treated by their employers and the unfair pay deals on the table before complaining.immoral_angeluk wrote: »So the floods aren't enough disruption for them? *sigh*Barclaycard 3800

I'm not saying they're wrong to strike... I just think they have incredibly bad timing.Broken_hearted wrote: »Maybe you should try looking at the way they are being treated by their employers and the unfair pay deals on the table before complaining.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

maybe they should get another job, if theyre that unhappy with it, and let someone who is ok with the conditions, take theirs, else they will go the way of the miners
noone forces them to stay
strikings nothing but bullying, but it doesnt work when the absence of their work, isnt that missed, or better yet, can be replaced0 -
Wasn't it the postal service that paid there staff a bonus last year or this year despite the fact more post gets lost than ever before?
Speaking of which in the past month we have had one card with £10 missing, one cheque from American for about £26 missing and thats only what I was expecting gowd knows what else has been lost without my knowledge.0 -
I'm sure they have valid reasons for striking, but around our way they are pretty useless, post going to the wrong houses in the street most days, never getting any post before 1pm, my list could go on. It's a shame because where we lived before the postman was great.:jWeight loss slimming world Starting weight 12st 2lbs. Target 10 st -4 -1 sts -1/2 -2 1/20

Whilst I understand what you're saying, in the case of my friend, he doesn't want to strike. He thinks the wage he's on and the conditions are fine. All the strike does for him (and all the other posties being forced to strike) is making him loose a days wage, they will not get paid for striking. Many folk feel the same as he does, but it's out of their hands.Debt free since 2014 - now saving for a mortgage deposit :heart2:

The problem isnt the pay increase or lack off , its the restructuring.
A friend fo mine has 3 kids and a wife
At the moment , he works 430 to 12:30. He only has to pay child minding from 9am to 12:30
Under the propsed changes , he will get a pay rise but loose his early morning allowance an dthe two balance themselves out , The proble is the child minding. This will go up by 1 and ahalf hours a day so he will be financially worse off . There is also an issue with parking , in that he will also have to pay for an addition 90 mins parking per day . Currently th ecar parks dont charge until 6am.0 -
recently our bank statements went to a house 2 doors away our houses are clearly numbered, perhaps modernisation could stretch to teaching some of them to read!!:jWeight loss slimming world Starting weight 12st 2lbs. Target 10 st -4 -1 sts -1/2 -2 1/20
