  • I am really struggling to understand why some people see this as a wind up. My username 'Oim Oirish' is just a diphthong. I am actually irish. Born n bred in county louth. When i'm anxious like i am now it is common for people with my condition to use diphthongs or other anecdotes in our speech. It is my minds way of countering the anxiety. About my hair being the giveaway. I dye the centre of my hair purple and have it spiked in a short mohawk style and if it starts to fade i need to get it done or i am not comfortable. I'm eccentric with my appearance which again is my disorder. I cant help the way i am, i never chose to be this way. I just get on with my life but when something like being seen as gay hits me i need it dealt with immediately. I am aware now i'm not welcome here. The only reason i chose this forum is because the man on the banner looks friendly. Sorry for wasting your time.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Priceless! :T

    The man in the banner looks 'friendly,' and you saw the huge words saying money saving expert and thought 'I know, I will join that site and put a post about how people think I am gay!.' PMSL! :D

    Thanks for giving me a giggle this morning.
    You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:

    It may be a wind up but I would imagine this sort of issue is common place and a regular issue.
    It makes me angry that work colleagues feel its OK to stick their noses into other peoples business and give their opinions on someone else's life which is absolutely of no concern or business of theirs.
    Stick to going to work and getting on with what they are paid to do.

    I cant imaging it being a common issue in an office myself. Most people are more interested in themselves and hometime as opposed to what sexuality of co workers.
    Even if they did wonder I cant see them asking in this day and age because they could be sacked.

    You must not work in an office then. You'd be surprised.

    I've had the office gossip desperate to tell me about the sex lives of the people I work with. One colleague apparently has been married decades but has a fearful sexual reputation around women - which she heard about through someone else who used to know him many years ago. The other one is getting divorced and she 'thinks' there were sexual problems. And then then there is the gay man in the office, who she seems endlessly fascinated with and is always scraping around trying to find information about.

    I go to work to work and I keep all my business to myself, which in itself has also led to people gossiping about me. I don't socialise with people outside of the office and I don't partake in gossip, although it doesn't stop people 'vomiting' their tripe in my direction. Office gossip and politics makes my head hurt, but many people make work an extension of their life and play out all sorts of dramas. They love nothing better than !!!!!ing and gossiping.

    Personally, I think the girl that the OP is getting close to is probably the source of the gossip. She probably thinks the reason she has been rejected so far must be because he's gay. Rejection because someone is just not that into you is tough, and she's probably not dealing with it well.

    In your shoes OP, I might be tempted to move on to another and better job if it is really bothering you. After 9 years at your current firm, no-one would bat an eyelid if you moved on to 'broaden your horizons and seek new opportunities and you could then tell your new colleagues whatever you like abut your past. Yes, you shouldn't have to do that and people should damn well mind their own business, but the reality you are dealing with is that they don't and won't.

    Cut ties. Move on. Forget them.

    Or stay put, grow a thick skin and go about your business as before.

    But whatever you do, do not sleep with this girl just because you want to stop people gossiping.

    If you read through the thread, people already have. ;)

    Or maybe you read all the replies already, but just wanted to make a point and stir the pot a bit. ;)
