What a beauty - our previous two were tabby and white boys. I said to my OH we couldn't have another and that we should look at black and black & white as they get overlooked. He wanted another boy.

So our new cat coming on Saturday is a tortie female.....

She's also about 2, was a stray who got taken in with a collar injury, has been rehomed once but was taken back as she doesn't get on with other cats.

We're renaming her from Munchie to Pixie.

Awwww congrats on the new addition to your family, Slinky! I'd not seen a tabby and white kitty before - I said he looked like a tabby who'd walked through a tin of white paint. :D

Hope Pixie settles in quickly. :)

He looks lovely, would love to get another cat after the ex-wife took the 2 we had with her, even though I got a daft dog I love to bits in the meantime, still missing the antics of the kitties.

Consider yourself lucky, we're still counting sleeps here! I took a blanket to the rescue centre yesterday for her to sleep on so that she'll have something with a familiar scent on to come home with.

Feliway arrived today, will plug it in tomorrow. Am off to PAH/The Range later to look for a new scratch post having donated our previous cat's one to the rescue centre.

    This is our Pixie

I recall when we got our old family cat he was completely unfazed and settled straight in. But my current cat (who was happy to let me pet her at the shelter) hid for three days in her safe room. Mind you it was then like a little switch went in her head as she was then very clingy for a while, insisting on sleeping on my bed.
I kept her indoors for three weeks on Cats Protection's advice - I suppose you'll know when he's bonded, and yes its a terrible worry first time they go out on their own!

I assume he is chipped? If not do please get him done - its very cheap and could be the saving of him.

I think the first evening went about as well as it could. We (and his previous slave) took him into his room, shut the door, and opened the carrier. We then talked softly to each other while he started sniffing around. He hid behind a chair - one of those reclining ones on legs so he could see out under it and survey the room. But within half an hour he was on the windowsill:

And after an hour he polished off the rest of his dinner (he'd been fed before coming round but he didn't eat it all, so she brought the remains in their dish). :)

Later in the evening, he was up on his tree:

And reading about the adventures of another feline (you probably can't see but that's the Calvin and Hobbes box set):

But all that exploring a new room was tiring work:

Little bit worried this morning though. He was in his room overnight. We opened the door this morning and he wandered straight out. We didn't try to stop him. He had a bit of an explore of the rest of the upstairs, hid under every bed he could find, then slunk back to his room and hid in the box at the bottom of his tree. He's been there since, only venturing out to eat breakfast. :(

Seems like a step backwards compared to yesterday evening? I think we let him out of the room too soon and he's been overwhelmed, poor mite. :( He doesn't seem unduly tense, he's just in a hidey hole. He'll be in the room again today while we're at work, but hubby can pop home at lunchtime to spend some time with him.

He also hasn't weed or pooped yet (his tray is in his room with the same litter as before, and we've picked him up and put him in it once to make sure he really knows where it is), but I've heard they can hold it for a few days when they move house.

He is indeed chipped. :) The rescue he came from actually keep it registered to them (they don't let you change it to your details), so abandoned pets end up back there. They've got our details now, so if they're contacted through his chip they'll ring us.
  • All the very best with your new cat but what a shame that it was not a black or black & white one.
Today is BLACK CAT DAY so I can I ask people to choose a black cat if possible. They are very hard to rehome and Battersea Dogs and Cats home says the it takes in twice as many black cats as any other colour.

We have a 3 legged black cat which we got from Cat Protection nearly 3 years ago. She manages very well and is both a hunter and a lap cat. We love her to bits.
