i really do hope that the money they recieve is going to the right people that genuinely need it..
i am not in any of the effected areas.. but my heart is really with you guys who have been effected....i feel soooo hopeless in what i can do....
lets hope that this weather is a freak of nature..... and doesnt start happening on a regular basis.....

I agree - let's all do what we can to help. The thread saying that victimes without insurance deserved no help brought shame on MSE - hopefully this one will get us back to being nice to each other. Can I help?0

I agree. I am glad a fund has been started.
I just heard on the news today that Hull council wasnt fully insured, so its not only individuals who make mistakes.0 -

Those whose lives are simple and straightforward, shouldn't cast such scathing judgement on those who find themselves in awkard situations that may not be their own doing! i have been busy trying to get my new business off the ground, so havent been reading through all the threads on mse .....
so i presume that there has been some thread, which are being unkind to uninsured people then ?
i know exactly how it is to let house insurance slide and not re-new or take out a policy..... as we have done it..... why..???? easy ...food on the table and elctrci tokens in the meter is more important at the time...
and with debt at an all time high ( i might be wrong, but its not far off ) lets not start wagging fingers and saying 'you should have had'
one in four families according to the goverment figures are below the poverty line...... and how many people really do have the average family income/wage coming into their household ?
but hay thats another topic for another thread.......
there is allways appeals starting for crisis abroad...... well lets get back to the saying...... charity starts at home....meaning in britain.....imoWork to live= not live to work0 -
details of where to give if anyone wants them

to be honest I would rather pay £2-3 a week for insurance than for the cost of internet access, computers and mobile phones0

Can we please not re-start the argument about whether people without insurance should get help or not - right now I don't think is the time to be wagging fingers and telling people they deserved it or telling others that there are more important things to pay than insurance
I can sympathise with both sides of the argument but right now this board is for helping people during this emergency - not for starting arguments. If this thread starts becoming another finger pointing in either direction I will have to close it... And what will that help people who right now are having to rely on help from others and the Red Cross?
Let's keep focussed people!

I don't think anybody had any intention of doing that here; the other thread is still open for that argument (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=508257). This is very much a "what can we do to help" discussion and I'm not aware of any disagreements here at all!Can I help?0 -
totally agree .. i started this thread just to let people know there was an appeal starting... and to say my heart is with these people who have been hit badly by these floods.....
and to say i feel totally helpless.....
but thank you tine just to say to people before they start saying any negative things.....Work to live= not live to work0 -
