    * the spare and tyre 4 are both used but newish

In that case put these two on the front, keep whichever is the best of the other three as the spare, and have two new on the back.

    Here's another argument starting.

    OK just ordered 4

Price is important and car is driven cautiously (OH and DD are both careful) so I have gone for Toyo 350s through Halfords (best price after phoning around) £160 for all.
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

Too late now but did you try blackcircles?

What's the point in replacing the "newish" one? Doesn't seem logical to me, just wasteful

    Waiting....!
Is safest to put new tyres on the rear of course, but most put them on the front.
Car's drive better with matched tyres on the front, odd ones can be felt sometimes whereas on the back won't notice.

Yes I tried blackcircles but they were more expensive. Halfords had a £5 off per tyre deal.

In total its only £160 and just like the though of DD and OH having new tyres all round with provenance

that is a good price for four and if you are happier buying four then that is up to you

if the fourth and the spare are the same tyres and in good condition then i would have gone with two and keeping the best of the rest as a spare

but that said i have seen me taking tyres off with 4mm tread just to keep a matched set

If I had changed all 4 then the good one would have popped in the shed.........just in case.

Bingo. Saves you the £2 disposal fee and means you can put it back on later if one of the new ones gets a puncture.
