Land registry and boundary dispute

            It's de minimus, ie that term that gets used about literally just a few inches and Land Registry does "general boundaries" that, I believe, are accurate to within about 18". Hmmm...maybe why some people apparently have boundaries that are "out" by 18" (cynical moi?).
It does sound like a c*ck-up by the builders to me, rather than anything deliberate.
Having said that, that's why I plan on personally supervising my builders VERY closely to ensure they don't do any c*ck-ups, as I very much doubt they are aware of the seriousness of not being precise.
In OP's position, I would be tossing-up between rectifying that builders mistake or offering the neighbours a pay-off to forget it (as it does sound like its impacting on them from what OP says).
It is blimmin' ridiculous that many British properties are so absolutely tiny that a tiny little bit of land can make such a difference to how "liveable in" they prove to be in the event, but it is what it is and many of us do live in "shoeboxes" where every bit counts:(:mad::eek::(. A case of "treat us like battery hens to be crammed into a shoebox and we will peck the feathers of the next bird over":( - ie to be able to "stretch our wings" (or, in this case, have a bit of parking space).
It is sad that many of us are subjected to space restrictions to that extent.:(0 -

That is pure and simple down to a choice between morals and finances.
Personally, I'd probably go for offering a couple of thousand £ or so to buy off the builders mistake - and hope I would encounter the builder to at least make the point to them verbally that their carelessness had cost me money.0 - 
            
I have a copy of the latest Title plan (scale 1:1250) it is so tiny that it just appears to show a boundary line appox half way. Would the latest title plan supersede the 1950's deeds?It sounds like legal advice will be needed to contest this and stop the neighbours just starting work.
If they are relying on 1950s Deeds, what do the neighbours' current Land Registry Title Plan show?

Agree it is a very small amount but it is a small amount of land in the first place being off road, parking from a very narrow lane it makes getting in and out for any driver difficult if a 6 foot wooden fence was erected there would not be much room to open car doors!!!Sorry but if 8cm is going to make such a difference to them parking they are either still very capable drivers or should not be driving.
8cm's is an amazingly small amount to discuss. It is not even the width of most posts.
I would suggest that if they want to erect and expensive fence 8cm difference let them get on with it.
This land could make Kensington west London prices by the time it is sorted.
They already have parking for 3 cars but want space for number 4 my parents have just room for 1 car0 - 
            
I forgot the say about the need to load and unload mobility scooter/ wheelchair as it stands two cars can park side by side but if both cars are parked you cannot open the doors to get in and out8 cms isn't a small amount, it's a miniscule amount and not worth being bothered about.0 -

Personally...I wouldn't even go there as to what people want to do with their own land, as that isn't up to anyone else to have a view in those circumstances.
Just check out with them how much it would cost to "buy out" that bit of land.
I have had commenting from my own Naughty Neighbour to effect I have more land than she does.....errr...doesn't know why that would be deemed to concern me personally????:huh: as its either my land or it isn't and its up to me what I do with it and if I have more than her.
I expect your parents neighbours would also find their "backs got put up" by saying anything along those lines and you would find it all the harder to resolve the situation amicably.
I understand what you are saying and see the point, but its not actually relevant to anyone else.

.......plus...........if the "dispute" further down the line gets difficult AND your parents do have the Legal Expenses cover don't expect them to bail you out after things have gone pear shaped - you need to decide if you want your insurers legal reps to deal with - if so needs to be without first mudding the waters0 -
