Box Trolls or Book of Life

I've said I'll take the kids to see one film at the cinema this half term. It's going to cost an arm and a leg and so I want it to be a good one. My son favours the Ninja Turtles but I'd rather gouge my eyes out than pay £13 a ticket to see that crap - so it's looking like either the Box Trolls or the Book of Life. Any opinions on which would be the best? The kids are 5 and 9 and have seen their fair share of animated films. The other option is the Maze Runner but that seems to be a sub-par version of the Hunger Games which possibly isn't suitable for a 5-year-old anyway.

I have seen Box Trolls and it is Ok, it was quite a dark film in places. I am taking my girls to see Book of Life, I think we will enjoy it more, especially as it is Halloweeny
Raven. :grinheart:grinheart:grinheart0 -
Both awful, would avoid book of life like the plague!
Maze runner is good, but definitely not suitable for your children's ages, my youngest is 10 and there were parts he was afraid of!
If you have a cineworld near you there are some older but good films out, and the 3D showings are only £2.70 for a ticket! I'm taking mine to see how to train your dragon 2 in 3D, 3 tickets for £8.10.0 -
My local cinemas (Cineworld and Empire) do cheaper tickets on Tuesdays, and there's also Orange Wednesdays (if you're with EE). They also do special showings of children's films on Saturday mornings that are really cheap - I think it's about £1.50 or something like that.0

I've seen that there's a cheap showing of How to Train Your Dragon 2 at the local VUE, which we might also check out - but Box Trolls and Book of Life both get good ratings at Rotten Tomatos so I'm surprised nobody here seems to like them...0

Friends took their 4 year old to book of life on Friday and they all really loved it!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0

One question you have to ask yourself is going to the cinema for you or children?
Surely the choice (within reason) should be theirs?0 -
When it's going to cost so much I'd like a film that we can all enjoy. Their only knowledge of either film is the TV ads and the McDonalds happy meal toys...gettingtheresometime wrote: »One question you have to ask yourself is going to the cinema for you or children?

I took my daughter and friends to Boctrolls for her 12th birthday.
She told me if she was younger she would have been really scared. It was quite dark in places (colour and theme) and I have to say the same thought occurred to me during it.
We've seen the trailer for Book of Life and it doesn't appeal to either of us.
Think they would both be a bit scary for a young child.
What about Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day? It looks like more fun.0 -

I can understand that - I rarely go to the cinema as I'm not prepared to pay a fortune on the off chance the hype is justified.....luckily for me though a new cinema has just opened up and they only charge £2.50 for an evening weekend showing for an adult..so I don't mind so much if its a lemon of a film.0
