Now you mention it, it might be better to ask in the forum as there are some quite knowledgeable people who post there and you might get more detailed info that way from others who have gone before you.

Yes I was thinking that too. One of the PlusNet staff has so far replied and said that no MAC is required and that my order for phone and BB looks all fine.

i am transferring from Sky to Plusnet as well. I placed an order on Friday and got an e-mail and text saying I wouldn't be able to keep my number. Quick call to say that was OK and over the weekend got several e-mails confirming phone and BB order going ahead. Phone goes live on 10 November and BB on the 11th.

Did you cancel your sky services first? If so, that's why you wont be able to keep your existing number. With the phone and broadband going live on different days I would imagine plusnet are setting up a new line rather than taking over the existing one.

If you haven't already cancelled with sky, as it appears plus net aren't taking over the number and service, you will need to call sky to cancel their services. Or at least I would do it to make sure they are cancelled.

I gave my 14 days notice to cancel and early termination charges were waived. They were unable to keep the phone number as my line is "full LLU". Sky offered a choice when I called - line kept active which Plusnet would take over (keep number) or Sky would cancel line and Plusnet install new one (new number. I chose the former.

That makes no sense. Either you kept the line active for plus net to take over and keep the number -the former - which you chose

    or

you cancelled it so plusnet can provide a new Line (which will be just a reconnection of your existing line to BT equipment at the exchange) -which you also said you did.

If the cancellation was in place before you ordered with plus net, that's why you wouldn't have been able to keep your existing number.

Just a bug bear of mine. It really annoys me when sky, plus net, BT, talk talk, or any of the other providers say they can't take over a number as they can. only possible exception is moving a business line to residential.

What causes issues is customers thinking they know better and that the losing provider is trying to trap them by telling them they need a MAC or to keep the line active to allow a port of the number, or unscrupulous companies saying they can't do it so they can charge for a new line provide.

There is a system in place to transfer, ask the provider your leaving what it is, they will tell you. rant over.

Only real difference leaving a "full LLU" provider is that no MAC is required for the broadband transfer.

At the time I cancelled my Sky tv, I discussed possible offers for phone/bb, as I had two more weeks before a decision was needed.

The offer at the time was poor (since had a very good one), but I was told that I should contact the provider I was moving to, allowing them to take over, if I wanted to keep my number, as direct cancellation with Sky would lose it.

Whoever told you that is talking nonsense. My line is full LLU and my number is being transferred.

I didn't give Sky a choice. As Sky were unable to offer me a deal anywhere near what I was getting from PlusNet, I simply signed up for PlusNet and they have dealt with it all. Right from the start I was told I could keep my number and that has now been confirmed by PlusNet.

The guy I spoke to at Sky did not try to tell me I couldn't keep my number. He probably tried everything else to keep my business but to be fair he did in the end say that the PlusNet deal was good.

Only real difference leaving a "full LLU" provider is that no MAC is required for the broadband transfer.

Sky did actually check whether or not I needed a MAC and said that it wasn't needed.

Big difference is that I did not tell Sky to cancel anything but just said thank you for your time and that I would make a decision based on what was best for me. I haven't spoken to Sky since then.

As to different days for phone and BB, I've been told the 10th Nov for phone and 11th Nov for BB - no new line, just a transfer. However I have been told by the PlusNet Community that it's more than likely going to happen on the same day but obviously the phone has to be in place (coming from LLU) before the BB can be activated, so possibly a slight delay.

I was also an O2 and then Sky customer and have just moved to Plusnet. Being on LLU I was told by Sky that I didn't need a MAC which was confirmed by Plusnet. I didn't cancel my contract with Sky but left Plusnet to arrange this based on the advice provided by Sky. I was also able to keep my telephone number.

I received two e mails from Plusnet stating my phone would go live on the 16th and then broadband on the 17th however, they actually both went live, a few hours apart, on the 16th.

All went smoothly and the broadband is currently better than Sky's with no dropouts and slightly improved speeds.

The Question 93583549 has been released from hold and sent back to BOT - Phone Provisioning MPF

    Dear Mr Matthews,

We now have all the details needed in order to place a simultaneous broadband order.

This means that we should be able to get your broadband service working within 48 hours of your phone line being activated.

These types of orders can fail on occasion. If that is the case we will be in touch and your order for the broadband will be submitted once your phone line is active. This will then take a further 5 working days to complete.
