Hair Extensions .. advice/info please

ok, this isnt money saving in the least, but i am hoping that someone will be able to help me!

my friend put some extensions in my hair a couple of weeks ago. before she did it, she had to dye my hair to get rid of my old highlights. what with washing & being out in the sun a lot over the last week or so my natural hair is now considerably lighter than the extensions and looks really odd!

my question is can i dye both my hair and the extensions with a normal perm dye from the chemist?

As far as i know you CANT dye extensions , are they real hair or the manmade fibre ones ? If they are real hair you would be best to find out who made them and contact them for advice but if they are the nylon type ones? you wont be able to dye them .

I wouldnt risk it. Even if the extensions are real hair the dye may take to the extension hair differently to your own hair so will still look odd!

Im no hairdresser but I think the only way round it would be to take extensions out, dye your hair same as the extensions then put them in again.

  • Thinking about getting hair extensions but don't really know much about the procedure and what the costs are. Anyone shed any light please?? Anyone experience of doing them or had hair extensions. Good or bad info required :)

I used to have ones called 'micro rings' - these are NOT put in with glue or anything, but little rings that you clamp shut with a 'plier' like tool. They are semi permanent and so come out when you decide to take them out/they fall out. These are the best I've used, I also tried glue and had to sit with oil/soap/fairy liquid for 3 days to try and get it out - I looked like a duck in an oil slick it was terrible! Also tried the clip ins, but I have very very fine hair and they stuck out like a sore thumb!!
If you pm me I might be able to get you the name of a supplier or a price list for a kit.

    Hope this helps.

Permanant ones are very expensive, very damaging to your hair and a nightmare to get out - u either have to pay a lot to have them taken out, or go through aginy trying to do it yourself while ripping your hair out. You will be looking at a few hundred to get a full head.

Alternative, get american dream clip in hair. Real hair, can colour, straighten, curl etc. does what it says, clips in, about 3 for a full head, around £45, take in and out as you like.

If its like Victoria Beckham short then extensions are a no no, will just look completely silly. Also, if its in a very blunt cut this can also make it look strange, ideally I would say shoulder length with some layers.

I had them done a long time ago when they first became all the rage. Paid £300 and sat in a chair for 8 hours! Was disapointed and didnt keep them that long , took a lot of aftercare as well !
  • no no NO!! Don't do it, it costs a lot, takes loads of looking after and never EVER use any product on or near your hair that contains coconut oil as this disolves the glue that is used (if you do it by this method). I learned the hard way!!!
