How exactly does a part exchange work?!

  • I'd have thought a clean and tidy car showed a caring owner.
What can you hide with a polish/good clean? It will show any flaws or repairs whereas dirt will help hide them.
Hmm apparently a clean car is suspicious!?

and a dirty one is honest!?

i'll be spinning in the mud with my car come time to hand it back and expect it to produce its top end PX value now I have inside knowledge from one motor trader.

heard it here first folks, drown it in mud, make it look like its never seen a drop of water it will make it look honest to get the best part ex value.

Have you ever heard the phrase, you can't polish a turd?

    How does it work?

Dealer offers below market value for your car, salesman recoupes this amount by up selling stuff you dont need (like paint protection and over priced gap insurance).

You drive away in new car, having paid full screen price and given away your old motor for effectively nothing.

Dealer sends old car to auction.

Realistically with six figures on the clock and a sheaf of repair bills, your only outlet is a private buyer, with a grin on their chops that the big bills are out of their way. A trade buyer will laugh at you and ask what else needs money spent on it next and offer you a £1000 TI. Your valuation is so far away, you need binoculars.

That would be a great way to encourage business wouldnt it - laugh at the customers trade in?

Also, any 08 Focus 2.0TDI's with 100K miles and FSH you get for £1,000 after you've laughed at the customer let me know and i'll take them all off you.

Dealer offers the "trade" value of the car, which is below the market value because he runs a "business".

Dealer tops off low profit margins by offering other products including paint protection and gap insurance. These products, like most things, are available cheaper if you shop around.

You negotiate a deal, often involving a discount on the sticker price and an adjustment of the dealer first pitched price.

By knowing the approx value of your car - in this case £4,000, you can aim to get as close as possible to this price, so you clearly arent getting effectively nothing for the car.

Depending on the type of car the dealer otherwise keeps, he may well retail the car, hoping that it doesnt incur some other large bill inside the warranty period.

He may also sell it on to another trader, or dispose of it at auction.

i may stick it in the Autotrader for a weeks to see if i get any bites first then as dont want to lost too much on the car, as spent a fortune on getting it back to roadworthyness. i do have my own car but in all honesty ive lost all confidence in the Focus as well and need rid. besides dont want to downgrade from my 57 plate Jaguar X Type!! haha!

Yes, stick it on line first and see how you get on.

If your Jag is the 2.0 diesel its running the same engine anyway.

How do you survive day to day?

You food costs more from the supermarkets than the farmer got for it.

Your clothes cost more in the shop than the sweat shop that produced it got.

The water you pay for comes free out the ground.

60% or more tax on petrol.

You pay a mark up on stuff every day yet you seem to have a chip on your shoulder when people want a new car.

Makes me think there's a bit of the green eye.
