For the dealer looking at it, its visually appeasing to know that A.he can see its kept, B. he can see dings and major scrapes without it being hidden by dirt C.he can see color variations if its had a bump, D. it limits his expense in prep products, limits having to take up his prep shop, limits having to pay his prep guy in more time on any one vehicle, and electricity power those mops, only thing he need to worry about is the vacuum cost which is very little, DA/rotary mops take a fair bit of power and that E he can just give it hoover out, put some paper mats in, spray a bit of freshner in the cab and put it out with a sale tag.
For the person who wishes to park ex, a good polish and wax will ensure he/she gets its value, if it looks dirty and tired on the outside, the dealer starts thinking numbers lower than he would have had had it been in better outside condition.
Another point of view is the trade like to see an honest car and will valet it anyway. So you aren't saving them anything.0 -

Yes, some more info would be good

+1
All cars that are retail quality will go through a standard process. It wont not be polished just because it "might" have been polished recently.
A wash and remove obvious clutter from the inside is more than enough.0 -
Hi there, its a 58 Focus Titanium 5 door with extras of heated electric leather seats, built in Sat Nav & phone bluetooth system, auto lights, wipers etc with a FSH, about 6 months tax & 6 month MOT, just over 100,000 VGC inside & out so id like to think £4000 but certainly not £1000!!
do appreciate all the quick replies though. As with everyone money is tight so need to get as much as poss for that Focus and spend as little as possible on the next one!
cheers0 -

Speaking as a motor trader, i'd not be valuing a car at any extra just because its been polished.
I would actually be suspicious as to why its being presented to me so clean.0 -

What miles? How long is the MOT? 3 door or 5 door? Any faults?0 -
It's perfectly possible to buy a car on the forecourt for £5000 and get £4000 part exchange for yours in which case you'd pay £1000.
If you did do that, however, the chances are that you'd end up with something worse (or at least worth less) than you started.0 -
No faults at all, in fact spend a small fortune on the car (main reason she no longer likes it/she thinks its cursed!) new head gasket, 4 new injectors, new oil sump. so obviously need to try and recoup as much cash as poss.
100,000 miles with FSH.0 -

100,000 miles with FSH.
With that miles i'd say trade price is probably £3250 - £3500 ish.0
