Do you also have a car, endaf?
Would it work if the two of you swapped?
  • Tend to agree that private sale will earn more than part-ex'ing the vehicle.

However, you may find that by part-exing with dealer direct you can get some discount because of it...but then again you have to wonder if that's come from the marketing team !!

Does not really matter how much you have spent on it as to its value .
The price you get in part ex depends upon the profit in the car the dealer is selling you and what a trader would give for you car or what the dealer thinks he can knock it out for either retail or auction .
Jimmy The Wig has it about right in my view .

Decent cheap end car with money spent on it i would stick a few cards in local newsagents first .

    about 6 months tax

That's irrelevant now, you will get the remaining months refunded under the new road tax rules

No faults at all, in fact spend a small fortune on the car (main reason she no longer likes it/she thinks its cursed!) new head gasket, 4 new injectors, new oil sump. so obviously need to try and recoup as much cash as poss.
    100,000 miles with FSH.

Sounds to me like the perfect car to buy! All the nasty work has been done.

Makes me laugh when people get rif od a car after they have spent quite a bit on it.

Look at it this way - the new car you're buying may (or will) need all this doing to it in the future, so why not stick with what you know?

this is the reason I'm still smoking around in a car I bought as a stop gap 6 years ago.

Speaking as a motor trader, i'd not be valuing a car at any extra just because its been polished.

I would actually be suspicious as to why its being presented to me so clean.
I didn't say and not implying it would be worth extra I said it would be worth closer to its part ex value.

im not implying that OP should go overboard with tarting it up, im saying a basic wash polish and wax and hoover inside and a declutter of chargers etc would suffice for it to look honest, I don't touch the engine bay when I;m looking to part ex as I know the engine is at its most honest when it looks dirty as you can see nothing is leaking and fingerprints around things.

its better than presenting a car that looks like the owner was allergic to water and bit of soap and didn't own a hoover.

I'd have thought a clean and tidy car showed a caring owner.
What can you hide with a polish/good clean? It will show any flaws or repairs whereas dirt will help hide them.

Motor trader says don't you keep coming back saying the same thing but in a different way.

It's up to the op to decide but I know who I'd be listening to.

Realistically with six figures on the clock and a sheaf of repair bills, your only outlet is a private buyer, with a grin on their chops that the big bills are out of their way. A trade buyer will laugh at you and ask what else needs money spent on it next and offer you a £1000 TI. Your valuation is so far away, you need binoculars.
