Last year In the West Midlands the powers that be switched off some/all speed cameras and moved over to mobile speed camera.

Although I think some have been updated now and switched back on.

There's a simple solution to the problem.

    ^^^ This ^^^

Although, driving with false plates is a more serious offence than speeding if you get caught.

I hadn't seen any mobile speed camera vans or anything so I think I was okay.

Why wouldn't you be ok otherwise?

They left them in place and were still effective in that at the zones drivers adhered to the posted limits.

If they switched them off we know that how?

Freedom of information request to your force area asking how many fixed cams are active in the area and which road have active ones and which have ones in mimic mode with no film and which ones are not active and deactivated completely will get you yours answer.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council in partnership with Safe Roads Humber publish where the cameras will be, see http://saferroadshumber.eastriding.gov.uk/about-safety-cameras/daily-enforcement-schedule/
They do reserve the right to enforce the speed limit anywhere
and also state the schedule is to change at any time, and locations can change at any time as per my post you really should take pre printed schedules with a pinch of salt.

And he's done that has he?

Even if he has were would the evidence come from if they are switched off?

FPN statistics for that location and camera ID code.

You can freedom of information request the local council to see what are operational and what are not.

it was also noted in the media in 2011 that camera's being active or not active varied greatly between counties.

All cameras were switched off, so no speed enforcement was conducted. Hence no tickets were issued so what statistics are you talking about?

But it was in relation to the West Midlands.

But the West Midlands turned the cameras off.
