Actually, there's no limit to the number of points you can get, but in the first 2 years 6 or more will see your license removed.

Actually, you just said what he just said, just with added pedantry.
  • Experienced officers don't need anything technical, just observing you speeding with their eyes (and experience) is enough.
I've had a slating for saying that before, but then showed a police forum discussing the matter.

Needs two officers or his opinion backed up by an approved device unless on a motorway but our expert notanewuser is about to explain all that.

ANPR reads number plates that's all and why it's Automatic Number Plate Recognition and not the old VASCAR Vehicle And Speed Computer And Recorder.

Nearly all traffic vehicles will be fitted with speed detection equipment.

Interesting you say motorways, they're special roads and enforcement rules are different. Perhaps you can impart some of your knowledge about that for the benefit of the op.

Sometimes what you read on the web is worse than that heard down the pub.

Yes, sorry, I put that confusingly. I meant to say that ANPR would pick up untaxed/uninsured/unMOTed cars.

Just from watching police programmes you see unmarked/marked cars following drivers doing 90+ on the motorway and they get done for it...........

Big difference in the meanings thanks to the language used, actually.

  • police don't tend to advertise their safety partnership van locations in advance, if theres a community safety drive type of operation going on then they may advertise that fact that in papers they will be checking speeds in certain area's over a period of time.

it is unlikely that a solicitor would be given advanced warnings.

I think solicitor could be touting for business.

I take it your local force doesn't then. Some do, some don't.

I knew what he meant as he was replying to the original post.
Maybe I'm just super clever to realise he was referring to the question posted!

Quite right too, insurance is a legal requirement.

Can you tell us anymore about the rules regarding the motorway?

Not the the op asked about that.

Oh, I thought you were the expert on use of language, hardly a good example to set is it :(

Why would you think I know (or care) about that?!
