30 years in this business I have never been asked for birth certificate to prove the relationship between donor and recipient.

They'd have problems with mine. Last saw my natural father in 1975. Took stepfather's surname in 1983.

I have a 'very wealthy' friend here in UK, just 45 minutes drive from me.
she would be very willing to give me the money my father has and write me a gift letter, however the lender will only accept a gift from a family member.

We even asked if my BROTHER could gift the money to me
I was going to wire the money back to my father then my brother would wire it to me.

However my brother has a joint account with my father so the money would have come from same account.

They said no to both solutions above

that is why I was thinking there must be something they are not telling me but mortgage advisor does not think so.

Those are the rules. No games.

yes fair enough, as I said it would have been nicer if they were honest from the start and told me they would require this, not have the information of my name and my father's being different, sit on it then go 'oh by the way'
I'm not the one playing games here I think. The possible solutions of using my friend or my brother to gift the money was the mortgage advisor's idea, they then asked the lender who said no.
I honestly do not see what the problem is if my friend wants to gift the money or my brother but there you are, as I said if they want me to dance naked on north pole they have every right to ask as its their money.

Not suggesting you are. The rules are in place for good reason. So you mustn't take matters personally. If lenders, solicitors etc break the rules that are in place. They get fined heavily. Lose their professional status.

Having worked for a gov dept years ago I would say one of two things will have happened at the bank.

We were always told if you needed to request further info you should check all the application and ensure anything required is requested. But some staff were lazy and stopped as soon as one request went out.

BUT sometimes a more "indepth" check was done or a manager would query something and you would be told-sometimes weeks later to go back for further info.

So if a lazy numpty as in the first case, then yes you have every right to be annoyed, but it could be as in the second case. Perhaps an underwriter or higher manager has passed this back for further info, in which case not so much to get mad at, just one of those things.

Not sure if you are selling and moving or renting. If selling you will just have to get solicitor/estate agent to let the buyers know there may be a delay and you can just push the dates back a bit. If renting it maybe worth contacting the landlord to see if they would let you stay on a week by week basis or even for one extra month without a full 6 month contract. Maybe worth it to the landlord if they haven't got a new tenant lined up (this may depend on the area you live in as to how quickly they can re-rent the place).

    Good Luck

thank you so much for your support and information.

I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO MAKE

I went LOOPY and I started putting my whole house UPSIDE DOWN
not believing I do not have this deed poll from 1999!!! I am a very 'anal' person who keeps everything document wise, I have payslips dating back 15 years!!!

so I FOUND IT I FOUND IT :T:beer::j

not only I found the copy, I even found the ORIGINAL AND THE SOLICITORS INVOICE for drafting it and signing it! it costed me £59 all the way back in 1999!!!!

I am so chuffed with myself, now they will see it monday morning, so I have only delayed it from today to monday :)
  • I am such a 'numpty', I spent all that money today for then finding the original.

this goes to show how much 'stress' buying a property puts you under!!!

    thank you RuthnJasper

I don't think I have been aggressive to those offering advice have I? that is why i have put smileys in posts.

I understand it is difficult to always catch the emotion/etc of an internet post so if I have come across aggressive I apologise that was not my intention.

PS my solicitor has not wanted proof of my father being my father by the way and on my father's letter it clearly states his name and my current one which are both very different, so it was no secret we have different names. If my solicitor did not want this then I thought it was not a legal requirement for money laundering right? also as I mentioned the lender too knew that both of our names were different ages ago, but instead they sit on it for weeks then all of a sudden they decide they want 'legal' proof of me being his daughter. Fine if it is a requirement, would have been nice to have been asked earlier.

Ah - this helps to make things clearer. Thank you for taking my posts in the spirit in which they were intended and not 'shouting' abuse at me. I can appreciate why you are annoyed now.

Please accept my sincere apologies for any slight on your point and your situation and my genuinely-meant good wishes for a quick resolution to the situation and for your future health and happiness. Ciao... xx
