A new day and the uBlock is not alive. Will leave alone to see how things develop.

Now it is. But when and if it stops, I will follow post 9 and disable all extensions/add on's and monitor to see if comes on, then one by one, enable the extensions/add on's again.

Maybe something's corrupt in your browser profile... or there's a bug in one of the add-ons...?

In Firefox under Windows 7, the bookmarks toolbar appears completely empty when opening the browser. I have to hide & un-hide it to get the entries to appear. It doesn't happen when I use a clean profile with no add-ons, however...
That happened occasionally to my bookmarks toolbar, using W8.1. What AV are you using? I think it might be something to do with AVASTs Browser Cleanup, which I found had reactivated itself. FF has behaved since deselecting it again.

I realise that I do not pass your 'good pedigree test' but did you follow the advice given in your previous thread here that you did not return to, or do you still "cancel and move on"?
 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:

Expresso, I did read your post and I did click on the link and my first thoughts were "this looks too complicated for me to deal with at the moment" and aimed to return to it later. However, for whatever reason and I can't remember why not, it was left unused and for that, I'm sorry. You've helped me in the past, you've commented and given advice, so it really was rude of me, again, sorry.

islandman, that is a very good link that espresso has provided.
Read it a couple of times then, proceed.

I use Avast Free, and have thought for some time that it is becoming 'too big for it's boots', it's becoming big/bloated, and wants to run your pc on it's terms.
    Move along, nothing to see.

I'm using Avast under Windows 7. However I religiously disabled all the bloated junk (like Browser Cleanup) when installing Avast.

The only components I installed were the File Shield, Web Shield, Mail Shield and Rescue Disk.

It may not have been that, just coincidence. I also thought it was the fact I was trying to open it too soon on the boot up. I know wait until the machine has booted and settled down before opening it. As I said it doesn't happen now. So it may also have been that. As it doesn't happen now, I've stopped experimenting....;):D

You may well have a point about trying to open too soon. I turn mine on then have breakfast then it's ok, but if I skip breakfast and sit waiting for it, I'm tempted to start before it's completely ready. It's a pity there isn't some way of knowing.

and this bit As it doesn't happen now, I've stopped experimenting. is the way I see it, but if the problem returns, I will have two choices, either re-install chrome or follow the advice/link from expresso.
