....and a ground floor loo!
Oh, and plenty of storage space. [0 -
A Hallway big enough to have a coat rack and a small sofa and a little table with a bowl of fruit.
At this point in time though I would be happy to just live somewhere where the front door doesn't open straight in to the living room.0 -
Somewhere to put a chest freezer is always handy.Thinking critically since 1996....0

For us 4 bedrooms, detached, downstairs loo, good size kitchen and lounge and good location .Moved to a house with all this and more last year!0

I'm in my 18th house, so my shopping list is quite well honed these days!!
Essentials, in order of importance -
Good broadband connection
Room for at least 3 bedrooms plus an office
Double garage plus off road parking
A house (rather than a flat or a bungalow)
Somewhere to fit a catflap
A garden - but it doesn't have to be huge as long as I can hang washing out
At least two loos
Utility room
Not too far from motorway/rail links
My 'nice to haves' are - a bit of character, walking distance from somewhere I can buy a pint of milk if I need to, pleasant places to walk nearby.
My fantasy house would also have an orchard and a stream at the bottom of the garden.
My current house has all of the essentials apart from the distance to the nearest motorway (but only 2 mins to railway station), and all of the nice-to-haves. And I did once have a house with an orchard, but I've never managed the stream. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
I've moved house a lot, rented, bought, had tenants etc. I can honesty say the best home I have is where I have the right community for me.
I've had an old cottage (draughty)
I've had a new townhouse (boring)
Terraced cottage (front door into lounge)
Flat (noisy)
Caravan ... Just in the summer.
All had good points too.
In the end I changed my husband instead and now I don't care where I live
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0 -
If it was a 'forever' house then my must haves would be:
kitchen big enough to fit a table
2 toilets, one upstairs and one down
shower room in addition to a bathroom
space for a washing rotary line in the garden
double garage - to fit the car and for storage of other things (eg. chest freezer)
En-suite bathroom in our bedroom
Good storage in the house and/or a loft
If I had the money, I'd also want a tv/cinema room :-)0
