Without wishing to upset any travel agents (especially PersonalTravelConsultant!) - in these days of easy access to the internet, do we need travel agents? How do they survive? Is there any advantage using a travel agent rather than just doing it yourself?
    Just wondered...............

Hi just to add to the other agents replies It has got tougher being an agent - but that has meant the not very good agents have left the business leaving the better ones still in it I work on price rather than service (though I do give good service of course) and I find I can still beat about 50% off the quotes I see on here and make money Also I find deals that you wont find on the Internet -eg I have Villas with Private Pools from £250 a week - you wont find those because they arent sold on the web (except by me) Sometimes a human is better than a computer - i know lots of little tricks re ticketing and sales codes that you will struggle to find - remember i do this job every day not once or twice a year - also because I work for the Co-op and we arfe huge Tour Ops and Airlines will sometimes give us exclusives to sell and we do really well on these Funnily enough sometimnes i'll beat somewones price on here by over £200 and they dont book - I think they are worried because its almost too cheap - thats frustrating especially as we send written quotes by email before booking you - so maybe we are a bit too good sometimes We have had to adapt and i work harder now than I did 5 years ago but I love the job and when you get an email saying this - " I wanted to write to say how pleased I was with the service received by Matthew Ruth who helped me book a holiday this evening to Monaco for my parents. I have used various firms over the years for bookings and found his conduct fantastic and far superior to what I have previously experienced. He was extremely knowledgable and helpful, giving insight into location, best times to travel and lots of options/flexibilit" as I did yesterday - you remember why you do it. Hope that helps explain why we do this crazy job Matt I am a Travel Agent My company’s ABTA/ATOL numbers are G9172/6053. MSE doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Travel Agent Code of Conduct.
