Bargains at Iceland?

  • We get quite a lot of frozen stuff from Iceland, plus things like big bottles of squash, chocolate bars for lunches etc and then everything else comes from Asda or Tescos.

Basic stuff like sausages, burgers, chips, ice cream etc plus branded things like Birds Eye are fine, the cheap sausages are really nice. It's a bit of trial and error really but well worth it.

Their pizzas are good especially Med Vegetable and milk is good - 4 pints for £1. Haven't tried much else as we're trying to stay away from processed foods.

Iceland is our nearest supermarket, and I find them good for offers - like 3 Litres of diet coke for £1.50 (though I'm not drinking it at the moment), offers on Muller Light and own brand cheeses, they do the whole range of Princes food products so always 4 for £1 on tinned pineapple, cheap tuna and £1 1.5 litre bottles of fruit juice, that sort of thing.

From the frozen section, we've tried the Lamb & Mint burgers which were nice and the cheap icecreams, but other than that only the frozen veggies - which were all fab (we liked the 'oriential veg mix' of beansprouts etc - all £1)

Agree with Catt - med veg pizza is yum! (not quite as good as Sainsbury's Garlic Chicken though) - can't beat Iceland for 'yellow' party foods (100 sausgae rolls for £1.50, 100 cocktail sausages £1, that sort of thing). x
  • They are great for fish, especially if like me you don't have a local fishmongers to get quality fresh fish (I refuse to pay Tesco prices for sub-standard fish)

I also like Iceland for emergency 'no time to cook' stuff and frozen peas and spinach. Treat food is good too. I will still always go to Aldi/Lidl first and won't get meat from anywhere other than my local butchers.

    Currently leftover - £3872.15
  • The smoked and white fish are £3.95 each at my local Iceland. I buy smoked and white haddock, frozen raspberries and frozen vegetables like carrot and turnip strips and leeks. These vegetables are great for making soup with no hassle. (ie - lazy way!) Some of their other products look nice but are heart attacks on a plate.

How much is milk at Iceland now? I used to go there to get £1 milk but haven't been since the price hikes

I think Iceland are good to buy a few 'emergency ready meals' for the freezer from

I have just started going back to Iceland because of their milk - Still £1 for 4 pints which is almost 50p cheaper than everywhere else.

They also do 2 loaves for £1.50. We had one of their chinese meals tonight - DH has Chicken in Black Bean Sauce and I had Char Sui pork and they were both lovely, for a wee change. Including the Fried Rice they were £4. I popped in last week for milk and bread and ended up buying enought for free delivery which was great!

I got to say I don't think Iceland is cheaper than tesco, if anything its more expensive besides the milk and bread offers and it is only really geared up for the micro mums (cause mums go to Iceland). I couldn't run an OS kitchen from iceland (although the one in town is rather small, so it may not have the variety of stock in.

Agree about that pizza - who'd have thought courgette would make a good pizza topping!?
