    Hi djdymond

There's an older thread that should help so I'll merge your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together. Also if you have a look on the Shop but don't Drop board you should find more threads on Iceland.

Iceland's economy bacon is great - IMO better than the good stuff from tesco and a third of the cost. I tend to buy milk, cheese and eggs there as well - I'm lucky that I cycle past one every day on my way to work.

I dont have a local iceland but when I pass one I always pop in as they are so cheap. Yesterday I bought several packs of the Findus chargrilled chicken breasts for £1 for a pack of 2.These are great value & other half likes them- they also do there own make at 4 for £1.50 which are ok. I also got a 6 pack of fish fillets for only £2 brand name. They are great for frozen stuff - I tend mainily to buy there brand makes - although some of their own make curries are ok for cheap fillers and there frozen veg is ok ( baby sweetcorn is great value ). I dont like their own make pizzas but they often sell goodfellas for £1 or £1.50 on specal so I stock up on them.
I would recommend them- but not for a whole shop, as you can save a lot , especailly if you are a big family and have a large freezer !
  • yeah- not all the foods great though
  • the shop we have on the army base "naafi" sells alot of iceland stuff and the only things i buy are the crispy duck and pancakes - this is really nice and only £7 and the crispy chicken strips (breast fillet) for £1 !

I'm surprised there are so many MSE-ers (not to mention OS-ers!) that like Iceland! I went down to Iceland (Kirkstall, Leeds) with my OH and we thought it was awful - the veg wasn't any cheaper but much worse quality, the meat was all reconstituted rubbish (apart from the full joints and birds obviously, which weren't that amazing value). We don't eat micro food as we can't eat too much salt (and it's gross), and the only other stuff they had was cheap sugary pop, noodles, and pasta.

It's OK if you want to stock up on cheap filler food (pizzas, curries etc for a £) but surely not for a main shop - I can't imagine how unhealthy that would be!!?

I could feed me and OH easily on £20 for the week and that includes some lovely hearty meals and work food. I'd really struggle to match that at Iceland!
  • You have to be careful not to get drawn in by the big yellow price tags (£1 etc) as it makes you think it's a good price, but quite often it's not and for some things they are rather expensive. I'd say Iceland was a place to buy the bits they do well or cheaply but do the bulk of your shopping elsewhere.

I'm a fan of their frozen veg, £1 milk, BBQ and party foods, frozen stonebaked pizzas and Indian meals. They've also started doing things like scallops with rosemary and garlic butter, which are advertised on an incomprehensible radio ad!

Also my local one has a small toiletries section where most things are £1 and tend to be the same things you find in Poundland.

To be honest I mostly go in Iceland just to avoid the queues and rude and incompetent staff in the Tesco opposite.
