Seems that Captaincodpiece didn't like part of my 2nd posting. Please see the link below it gives more information on the responsibilities of motor traders.

I never suggested that the OP was a trader merely the possibility that the buyer thinks otherwise. I do agree with others in that contacting the police was correct action, the buyer seems a tad unstable.
It's a private sale so I don't see the relevance of all that.0 -
Don't give him any money . If the car has had an insurance claim against it it will show with a car check etc look online . I have on on my phone instant car checker . google it it cost a few quid to check .
If it was a series accident like he is claiming for side impact the car would have needed sill's and door's etc . It may have put in into needing a vic check . If that had been the case it would state this on the front page of the logbook (v5) I know as I have bought car's like this without one little bit of a problem safety wise . Google the classes of damage they go cat a to d .
A and B are the car's off the road part's only and cruched
C and D can go back on the road .
I had someone do the same to me after I sold a car on ebay . Claimed there was faults with it a few weeks after buying it and that I was going to be paying to repair it . He politely go told to get lost and not harrass me about the car again . It was sold as seen through a private seller . Stand your ground and don't give in . If need be use the police to help0 -

It'll only show on HPI etc if it's been claimed and written off. If it's been claimed and repaired, it won't show. If it's not been claimed, it won't show.
If it's been written off as Cat D, it'll show, but won't need a VIC and won't be on the V5C.
Cat D - Insurance have decided not to repair, but damage below pre-accident value.
Cat C - Damage more than pre-accident value.
Cat B - Serious structural damage, can be broken for parts but only by authorised dismantler.
Cat A - must be crushed whole, no parts can be re-used.
Also - these are only advisory... Reputable companies won't go against, but they aren't legally binding.0 -
He'd only have some legal comeback if your ad specifically stated "never been in an accident" which obviously it didn't.
Private sales are always Caveat Emptor - perhaps you should tell him that, he may be a latin scholar. But was probably too busy burning ants in the playground.
Make notes of each time he calls and what he says.0 -
Well sat has been and almost gone and heard nothing so think he has taken the hint...0
