Thanks again all..
Didn't specifically say I wasn't a trader in the listing but all other items on my eBay are kids clothes, mrs clothes and computer games so guess its easy to prove not!
He's phoned tonight and said he will accept 50% of the repair price (£200) because he likes the car just doesn't want his daughter driving it when unsafe.
Was polite, explained I had looked into it buyer beware etc, he to put it politely went mental, said he's reporting me to eBay for fraud and will be at my house sat morning with the car and his mates and he was someone I didn't want to mess with.
Said I will be reporting him to the police for harassment and hung up... He hasn't rung back yet so we shall wait until Saturday!0 -

Yes, he's so hard he has to wait until his mates are free to back him up and people who shouldn't be messed with don't usually feel the need to go round telling people.
If he threatens violence on Saturday just call 999. You could in the mean time ring 101 to have the matter recorded.0 -

This ^^^^, I would definitely report it to 101 so that it is on record.0 -

The fact he mouthed off at you means he knows his scam is dust and that was his last hope of pulling it off.
Hard people will never tell you how hard they are, they just do it.
If he should call before the day and try to say the same again, let him mouth off and when he's done tell him you've recorded the call and are now attending your local station to give them the evidence...that will shut the spineless playground bully up.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -
Definitely report to the police via 101, who knows they may already be aware of the scumbag if he has done this before (or if not, it'll help them if he tries this with another innocent car seller in future).0

You don't have to write your a private seller - whether you are or not is a matter of fact, not a choice. In the same way a dealer that writes 'private seller' to evase is obligations doesn't make him any less of a trader.0

It's a well known scam to get further discount/cash off the seller, as before report to the police and forget about it. I wouldn't enter into any further dialogue with the buyer now that you have made your position clear.
Also block him from your ebay account as he could cause mischief with the other items you are selling.0 -
Just to add, I'd report him to ebay as well, get in first - I hope he didn't pay any kind of deposit over paypal?0
-
No deposit, what's worse is he asked me to remove the car from eBay before he came to collect it, but I said no I'd rather you checked it out and are happy with it!
Spoke to someone on 101 and got it logged., haven't heard from him, or eBay so guess he hasn't done anything else yet.
It was a classified ad with my number on so I never knew his eBay I'd, or if he had one at all unfortunately.0 -
Seems that Captaincodpiece didn't like part of my 2nd posting. Please see the link below it gives more information on the responsibilities of motor traders.

I never suggested that the OP was a trader merely the possibility that the buyer thinks otherwise. I do agree with others in that contacting the police was correct action, the buyer seems a tad unstable.0
