Found out my Wife could be pregnant over the weekend...

If she's taken 7 positive tests then she's pregnant. She should definitely see the GP but they most likely won't ask her to take another test.
Some of the very early tests can appear to give a false positive if you have a very early miscarriage - which would just appear like a very heavy period. However, assuming this hasn't happened then I think you can assume that you're good to go.0 -
False positives are rare. The tests look for the HCG hormone which is normally only present in pregnancy (and in some women who are on fertility treatment I believe).
A lot of GPs don't do their own test to confirm because home pregnancy tests are so accurate. When I found out I was pregnant I called the surgery and they just asked me to come in to pick up a Bounty pack and midwife contact information. The only contact I've had from them since is when they asked me to come in for a flu jab. I'm almost 24 weeks now and still haven't seen a GP, because there hasn't been a need for me to. The midwifery team will get the ball rolling with regards to appointments and scans.
I have carried on pretty much as normal throughout my pregnancy and your wife shouldn't have to change her habits too much at this stage. The only differences really are that I don't do any lifting, need more sleep/rest, only very recently I can't be as active. You can't anticipate problems, you just have to deal with them if and when they arise.
Congratulations to you both :beer:0 -
I'd say you are definitely expecting!
She's fine to carry on as normal. Her body will soon tell her to slow down if she needs to and at that stage you would be being a fabulous husband if you took on any extra jobs she does outside of work - cooking dinner, cleaning, etc.- [STRIKE]Credit Card: £2,989 / £2,989[/STRIKE]

Congrats!
Let her let you know how she is feeling. She's likely to experience some tiredness, fevery feelings, nausea and headaches in the next weeks. It varies person to person, there is no typical response, but you might say "typically" she would start to feel a bit off from 7 weeks and be at her worst with morning sickness around 11 weeks, feeling much better by 14-16 weeks. But really, everyone is different.
If she says she's fine carrying on as normal, I'd take her at her word, but be prepared to step in when she needs help. And be ready to fetch whatever foods she wants - cravings can hit hard in the first trimester.:D For me it was salt n vinegar crisps and milkshakes - just your body's way of saying what nutrients it needs - the baby is practically fully formed by the end of the first trimester. She should be taking folic acid already - ask your pharmacist if her doctor appt is taking a while.0 -
Time to break out the colour schemes and start planning the nursery it seems!
Congrats to you both. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
I don't do any lifting,
Despite actively trying, it was only when I got to about 8 weeks pregnant (24 years ago!) that it actually occurred to me that I might be, and in the meantime I had carried my big heavy dog on an escalator. Not quite like this:

but something similar! The baby was fine.
Very like your wife, and again despite actively trying, I had great difficulty believing it was true. Reassurance from a pharmacist that a false positive is extremely rare was helpful, though I had a secret fear that the first scan would reveal nothing at all and I'd be told off for being so stupid as to believe I was pregnant. My parents took 12 years to conceive me (their only child) and I suppose I'd always thought it was not easily achieved - despite evidence everywhere to the contrary!
Congratulations to both of you. :TLife is mainly froth and bubble

7 tests? :eek::eek:
Blimey, it was easy in earlier years when the GP did it....lol
But, to answer the question, i became pregnant a month after stopping the pill (and that was one of the early pills, in the 70's, which were a lot stronger).
Best wishes.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
A woman is extra-fertile soon after stopping the combined pill - two of my friends got pregnant when they took a break from the pill & didn't take the warnings seriously.
You used to be able to get false positive results with some brands of test combined with certain antibiotics - it's a long time since I researched it, so I hope the manufacturers have fixed that by now. The tests doctors have are less sensitive than home-use tests. Makes sense, given that docs are professionals and potential parents might not fully read the instructions!0 -
Congratulations :0)
As people have already said if early pregnancy tiredness and sickness kick in then she should take it easier just don't do anything crazy like helping someone move house or something lol
I am currently 11 weeks pregnant with our second, with a toddler and 2 jobs my husband has supported me a lot over the last couple of months to allow me to rest up a bit.
You may find it incredably slow going from now on, waiting for first midwife appt, scan appt etc.
All the best, get her to join the early pregnancy thread for support, it's great.:jMarried 16/07/2010, ds1 born 11/08/12, baby due 08/05/20150 -
Immediately after you come off the pill you can have a real boost to fertility.0
