Found out my Wife could be pregnant over the weekend...

Hi all,

So my wife took 7, yes 7 pregnancy tests over the weekend, 3 first response which came up positive, 2 tesco own brand which came up positive and 2 clear blue, again both positive, one saying 2-3 weeks and the other saying 1-2 weeks.

For some reason my wife is still not believing she is pregnant, she is in the middle of trying to get an appointment with her GP, however as she has only just registered so its taking longer than anticipated to get an appointment, in the meantime she is insistent on carrying on as normal, stressing over work (she works full time) and then still doing everything when she gets home, and I keep telling her to just relax a bit, because imo it would be almost impossible to get 7 false positives.

I think one of the reasons she's not believing it is the fact she only came off the pill like 4 1/2 weeks ago, and shes been on it consistantly for around 7 years, so she thought it would take much longer.

So my questions are, is there really much of a chance that we would of got 7 false positives? Also in the early stages, is my wife fine to carry on as normal or does she need to relax more? She's not usually a very relaxing type of person, although once she's been to the doctors and its made definite, I am sure she will more. I am thinking more for now.

Sorry just a paranoid person here, as want everything to go as smooth as possible, I know the early stages are some of the most crucial.

    Hiya,

There's no such things as a false positive with pregnancy tests - only false negatives (let alone 7 false positives) so I would safely say your wife is pregnant. Congratulations!

There's nothing wrong with carrying on her normal activities at all and is probably the best thing to do. The only thing that wouldn't be so good is if she was extremely stressed and exhausted.

Maybe when she goes to the GP it'll sink in a bit more for her.
It can be strange grasping the fact you are pg when you feel no different in yourself!

I hope it all goes well for you :)

Congratulations. I'm pretty sure I've read that there can be a fertility surge shortly after coming off the contraceptive pill, and you hear plenty of stories about babies conceived after missing pills.

First of all, take a deep breath and relax! And Congratulations!!!

We were told by our GP that the sticks these days are as accurate as any test they can run - so they didn't run any tests. They just got the ball rolling with registering with a midwife etc - which I assume can be done without visiting the GP.

As for your wife, just let her carry on as normal. She is pregnant, not ill :) As for the stress, some people are just like that (my wife being one!)

    Congratulations to you both! :)

You can get false positives that could be an indicator of a medical issue, but I doubt that's the case.
  • Thank you all, I must say I am very excited :j

I was about to post exactly the same.

    Congratulations

Got to say it didn't sink in with me till the 12 week scan and I saw the baby for myself.

As for stress, I was involved in a serious road accident, with all the stress of insurance companies, hire cars and car buying in my first trimester, and baby survived it no problem. It's amazing how well babies are protected in there.

My experience is that her GP will ask if she has taken a pregnancy test and when she says yes and it (they) was positive then he will simply say 'congratulations you're pregnant'. *

    * he'll probably make a note of it too;)

    Congratulations:beer:

I like your wife assumed it would take some months for years on the pill to work out of my system.......and fell pregnant the first month.

For now let her carry on as normal -but you can get early pregnancy tiredness which knocks you for six.
Obviously you'll probably want to take on more at home so she isn't rushing around at home quite so much - but for now-until her body tells her to slow down (and it will if it needs her to) it's business as usual .

    Congratulations !

False positives are rare (not impossible - I got a false positive whilst I A&E!), so 7 false positives just wouldn't happen!

    Congratulations!

    Most GPs won't do anything.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
