BT don't "charge" £50 for caller display. You buy a phone with caller display as standard, they are not £50 dearer than those without that functionality.

If you have an existing phone without caller display then buying a new one with caller display to replace that will cost around the £50.00 mark.
You also have to pay about £2.00 per month on your bill for the caller display service. Its not free.

A single cordless phone with caller display will only cost you around £20. Caller display from BT is free if you commit to a new 1 year contract. Once you have Caller ID you wonder how on earth you managed without it.

What would be the biggest improvement is to make the use of forged caller ID's illegal - I am getting sick and tired of seeing numbers like 0123456789 etc, these things are a sure sign that it is a cold caller - and get left to the answer machine to handle. Phone companies should be made to ensure that these obvious forged ones are blocked, not leave us to do it.

Tesco's is £2 extra, Plusnet's 99p and Sky's inclusive. It used to be free when I was with BT.

You appear to have last looked into the cost of caller display around 1998! The cheapest caller display phone I could find (in a 20 second search) is £16.37!

The main thrust of my post was that caller display enabled handsets can be purchased for a lot lot less than £50.
