  • update - another spend - £21.14
    Total so far £97.15.
I can't believe this - I keep checking my totals.
My food waste has gone down to nothing and I have still have stuff in the cupboards and my freezer. It won't be my last shop this month, but I will be happy if it ends up at £120 as it is well below my target of £160.

Thanks for the advice about oats not being GF. I have to say I am finding it harder than I thought to come up with GF snacks for him on a budget. I looked at the price of GF flour and almost died of shock :( Still, I need to make him stuff for his packed lunches.
Look into finding naturally gluten free flours.
Gram flour, rice flour and cornmeal all sell for around £1-1.50/kg which is cheaper than £1.70/kg that some GF flours can sell for. The bags usually say they are gluten free if they are.

http://www.dovesfarm.co.uk/recipes/ has good GF ideas for baking. I will likely be trying the rice bread and pizza base recipes myself in the next week or so.

    I made this
http://www.plantoeat.com/blog/2012/06/100-cornmeal-cornbread-gluten-free/ with a few tweaks. Used rice milk, soya marg, agave as I had that instead of honey and egg replacer (even at full price it's less than 5p per 'egg' and it's gluten free). As the comments say 2 cups milk is too much. 1 would be better I think. I had to keep adding cornmeal etc to get the right consistency. If I had done 1 cup milk it would have been easier to add more milk if needed. The finished product tasted really good. Would probably go in a pack lunch no problems. I'd say it could go with sweet items like jam, maybe a nut butter (if school allows) or maybe with some left over curry/chilli* or the like.

*if you make curries/chilies do make sure to check the packets. Some mixes or even 'stand alone' spices have gluten in them or are milled/produced on same lines as gluten products. This can cause a reaction in people with problems.

£80 spent in L!dl, !celand, fruit and veg market and Home & Barga!ns this week, our last shop of the month as we are paid on 28th. We've gone over very slightly again... £6 this time... BUT: our kitchen is packed, we've had very little food waste and no takeaways at all in Novemeber, plus we're closer to our goal than we were in October so I'm putting us down as a win again. :)

£3.43 over the last few days on a can of coconut milk, 2 bags of crisps, a pack of noodles & 2 sub rolls.
  • No grocery spends to report, but realised I still have nearly £35 left out of my 'fun' budget with less than a week to go till the new budget kicks in!! So, instead of blowing it all on a ridiculously expensive takeaway and beer, I popped into Adsa on my way home from work last night to buy myself a treat. However, I just couldn't bring myself to waste it when I knew the money could go to better uses, so all I ended up with was a tube of Pringles and a packet of Tuc crackers! Both were on offer so I only ended up spending £1.50!!! :j

Less than a month back on the MSE Forums and I'm already back to my skinflint ways!!! ;)

Looking forward to spending less and less!! Cheers!!!

Spent £9.70 today whilst out shopping. Found a smallish fillet of fish in freezer so while I am busy in the kitchen tomorrow I will make mum a fish pie for in the week. Tomorrow we are having sausage & mash as the sausage needs using up will also have sprouts (have a craving for them at the moment - no far to old for babies lol) maybe some carrots as well and onion gravy and have to have onion sauce:drool: . Tonight we treated ourselves and had steak which was nice. Also got a few mixed berries out so will do a crumble tomorrow with an extra one for mum.
    MARCH £62.38/250
