Hiya everyone and welcome to new peoples/returners :hello:

Just lost a huge post and don't have the energy to repeat it all now :( - will try to revitalise it tomorrow.

Yesterday was an NSD and today I spent £4 on some potatoes, yoghurt and pineapple juice to cook ham on Friday.

Hope you all have a thrilling Thursday - I'll put up my weekly menu tomorrow as well

    Nighty-night :)

    Afternoon All :)

Another £30 spent, so definitely over budget! However, I have everything I need to last till the rest of the month apart from cereal bars and rice cakes for packed lunches.

Mmmm, I LOVE porridge! Although I am not sure if I can give them to my son as I think oats have gluten in them? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, he's love porridge as he is having oatabix and HM GF toast for breakfast at the moment. Poor thing is missing his usual food, and I am finding it hard to do all the baking and cooking that come with being GF.

We use gluten free oats as my au pair is coeliac. We have found that the Mornflake oats, whilst they aren't allowed to say they are gluten-free, used to be able to, until the EU rules changed. If you have a look on their website you can see the exact parts-per-million etc. We have used them with no ill-effect at all (and my au pair is DEFINITELY sensitive to the smallest amounts of gluten). The best thing is, you can buy them for 50p for 500g, I think is the weight, in Home Bargains here in Scotland. Much cheaper than anywhere else.

Obviously do check the Mornflake website as it explains the technicalities behind the labelling process.

    H2H someone.

Ok, would i be right in saying Rosie would monitor the posts and add recipes to her index as they appeared? Yes
Were they highlighted in red or anything to bring them to her attention? No, just posted as normal text
I'm just trying to get a better understanding of the time involved as we want to make sure people don't over commit themselves if they volunteer

Can anyone help me understand if i have this right? :A
    All information helpful

    Zip
It is just a simple copy the paste of the post URL with the title used as the link.
Then it is copied in to the correct section. Around 30 seconds work per recipe. Where it becomes time consuming is in the reading of the thread.
They need to have the time to read every post really.

THANKYOU SOLTICE 3 :T :j My £1 box of food arrived and it is fantastic, fresh fish, fresh lambs mince, chicken breasts and a small heap of fresh veg as well:)

I have had NSD since Sunday but I am going to shop today. I need milk, eggs and potatoes.
Lid! have beef roasting joints on special and gammon from today so I am going there to get those to freeze for Christmas.
That comes out of my 20p jar though which I save all year for the Christmas food.
Then I add my nectar points and my normal food budget and that is our budget for food and alcohol for December. This year so far we have-
    £200 normal budget
    £96 in 20p's
    £61 in nectar
So our December budget will be £357 :j And we don't know that we had even saved really :)
Lid1 will also have deluxe chocolate cakes at 99p as part of the weekend deal so I will get 2 of those on Saturday as well.
I'm trying not to spend at all really and it has really helped me this month, I have 7 days to go and over half of my budget left still.

Good luck as we get to the end of the month :)

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi All
Its my husbands birthday tommorow (anyone who has been keeping score yes that is all 3 of us this month, groan!) So we will have a special breakfast of his choosing before work. Need to pop off and grab that in a moment. Also out of bread. He's asked for turkey fajitas for his birthday dinner which is nice & easy.
Am pooped now I've started working part time again, you dont realise just how much you get done during the day when you are at home. But the extra money will be so very welcome.
    Will update spends soon.

  • Zippychick - the December Grocery Challenge cannae be lost for want of a volunteer to monitor the recipe index. Hopefully you have been inundated with offers from grown-up, responsible adults by now. However, if all else fails, I'm willing to step forward and have a bash......

My only 'condition' is that I am probationary, for December (or longer if you feel necessary). If I'm carp at it, or it proves too onerous then I get to step down, no hard feelings.......

I understand (I think) how Rosieben kept the index - although I know that she also took her butterfly net and captured fab recipes/resources for the index from places other than the GC - I can't commit to do that - I may only be able to capture recipes from the GC - unless other folks 'direct' me to relevant posts.

The one thing that I don't understand is how the index is transferred - is it literally a cut and paste job each month? And how do you know how many recipes will fit in a post? Otherwise *theoretically* the index could be one HUGE post..... ponders

I'm away to finish up making our dinner and do some baking. If you need me, let me know.

I really appreciate the help and support with this guys :)

I have had a few volunteers and have went for the person who seemed surest of what needed done. I can't say how much i appreciate the offers, honestly. Such a fab community we have here :j:j:j

i would love to get a back up person in case the new girl needs a break in a few months

Ive sent a PM to the new volunteer to copy and paste with some instructions so once that's done, December will be up and running.

This seems like such a surreal thing to say, but Pink and Rosie would be well proud. And Squeaky too of course:(:A:A:A

£2.10 today on eggs from the egg man (I wasn't going to get any this week but he left them while I was away from my desk - need to pay him next week), and a hello fresh box (thank you again solstice)

Any idea how to use about 18 eggs?
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.
