newshadow do you prove the dough the second time or do you just bake it straight away.

Depends - If I mixed it and left it to proof in something I can just chuck in the oven, I just chuck it in. If I manhandle it tipping it onto a tray to bake then I leave it 20 mins.

As an easy guide, I make it up in my small slow cooker pan (makes 6 bowls of soup so about 3 litres) when proofed it nearly fills the pan and makes a round loaf about a foot in circumference and about 4ish inches high.

(Don't try and bake it in a pyrex oven dish... Or glass in general. It cooks fine but you don't get any bottom crust and it has a tendency to stick - fine if you're just really hungry and want hot bread with soups. Naf if you want something to slice. ;))
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Off to take advantage of my nectar free money today. Planning a very simple spaghetti dish for dinner with chorizo, red onion, chopped fresh tomatoes & mozzarella. Oh & maybe a basics garlic bread. So hopefully a NSD & nothing off the shopping budget.

  • Hi all,

I had a small spend of £2.45 on sweets yesterday as ds has just been diagnosed with infant irritable bowel and stomach syndrome, so I wanted to cheer him up and treat him for taking his tablets nicely. I also needed a little cheering up. lol. Will add to sig now.

NSD today as I'm staying in the warm and sewing Christmas things.

Have a good day all, keep warm. x

    Good afternoon, all,
I've just updated my signature with most of last week's groceries. It takes a bit more maths atm to exclude stocking fillers, etc. As before, booze is also not included. A lot of Christmassy things , though.... I hope they will last and we won't eat them before December at least ;). Still, I fear I might fail this month. :o

  • Quick update - have spent £196.08 so far this month - with only a paper to buy this week so declaring under budget again for November. Will have a few meals over in the freezer to carry forward into December - so that's good.

Have bought a few bits on Visa card which I'll take off next month - not eating them until then anyway!

Not sure what to declare yet for December budget as we aren't around all month but always spend extra!!!
    July 16 £95/£200
    Nov 16 £0/£200

    Afternoon All :)

Another £30 spent, so definitely over budget! However, I have everything I need to last till the rest of the month apart from cereal bars and rice cakes for packed lunches.

Mmmm, I LOVE porridge! Although I am not sure if I can give them to my son as I think oats have gluten in them? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, he's love porridge as he is having oatabix and HM GF toast for breakfast at the moment. Poor thing is missing his usual food, and I am finding it hard to do all the baking and cooking that come with being GF.
