Can I join for November? Budget is £150 for 2 adults, to cover food, toiletries, cleaning stuff. Had a NSD to begin, using up bits and pieces from the fridge.
  • evening all,

another £6 spent today on a load of baby jars for the wonder bairn, not long til they stop all together! Her first year is flying by!

Bf has done a musclefoods order of chicken breasts, steak mince and tilapia which should see us through a fair few meals especially now he's on a protein mad cycle with GB! well worth it in our opinion; what we've saved in the expense of a trip to Makro alone means it's more than worth it and we've still saved getting it delivered :) and got a free gift but bf has paid as he says its to come under his expenses for his funding - woop!

so just £6 to add to my sig :) this week we should only need fromage frais for wonder bairn, milk, bananas, lasagne sheets and lasagne sauces and natural yogurt, oh and bolognese sauce and maybe lettuce as I put salad on the table with most evening meals now. We have a meal out Friday and are away saturday and sunday so plenty should roll over to the following week when bf is away most of the week!

Oh and my dad has made me a big pan of pumpkin soup for my lunches this week :)

Did my aldee shop today. Came to £21 ish. Forgot to get lotto ticket for tonight so went out to c00p after dinner, and found two tubs of spreadable butter for 25p each instead of £2.50 odd! Got them both, as they'll last. That place, as it's close, has become a regular haunt for me to catch any ys. They seem to reduce things better than other sms.

I've spent the day digging through the cupboards, and while I won't need much this week, I've put together the list for the rest of the month. Hasn't been delivered yet, but guide price is £45 for:

Meat - 4 packs smoked mackerel, 2 small beef joints, 2 small gammon joints, 400g black pudding, 2 packs smoked bacon, 6 potato cakes, 8 pork sausages (I do like my cooked breakfasts of a weekend)

    Restocking - 2 tins spaghetti hoops, 1kg sweetcorn, 1kg peas, 5Kg potatoes

Dairy - 12 muller light yogurts, 2 tubs low low soft cheese, 2 tubs Phili light sweet chilli, 2 big tubs ff cottage cheese,

    Fruit - 10 bananas, 6 apples, 6 kiwis

Misc luncboxables - 2 packs crisp bread, 2 tubs options hot chocolate (for on a friday at work), 24 jaffa cakes, big bag of popcorn, GoAhead slices

Household - bin bags, washing up liquid, 3 bags cat litter

A lot's going to carry over until next month, but ideally that means I've got £35 left and should just need fresh fruit/ milk/ eggs this month.
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

House Bought July 2020 - 19 years 0 months remaining on term
Next Step: Bathroom renovation booked for January 2021
Goal: Keep the bigger picture in mind...

Hello Bobarella and WantToBeSE, W8rose is a mixed bag. If you hit the right time you can get a veritable jackpot, for example my local one reduces their bread rolls to 5p each at the end of the day, once I found a large batch of packets of butter reduced to some silly price, 20p or so, can't remember exact figure. Late evening you can get deli counter stuff reduced really low. Sometimes they have decent offers too.

Overall if you have a very tight budget it might not be the ideal place, their essentials range is more expensive than other shops, but if you want to treat yourself to occasional YS luxuries it is worth checking. Sundays at 5pm is a good time as they reduce most things very low.

They seem to have a good selection of vegan products in the chilled area but not always in the freezer. But I notice they stock the booja booja vegan chocolate ice cream (gorgeous, to die for!) which I bought, once, because it was on offer. I cannot comment on gluten free because I haven't had any need to look for it

    HTH
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

So sorry WanttobeSE! :) I've not been back on to browse for long since you asked about my cash! We do a bit monthly shop at the start of the month (this month it was even bigger as we literally got everything we could for every meal)...then we get out "what's left" so we stick to it.
It means can see what we have to take each week as the month goes on & motivates us as we save anything leftover...we have a C* saving pot at home from Sept 1st-December...then in Jan. it becomes a summer holiday pot.

    Meals 4 week 1:
Sat: Girls night for me :) & soup for the men folk.
Sun: Leftover hotdogs in tomato/mushroom pasta with brocolli, cheese & garlic toast.
Mon: YS steak pie, mash, frozen veg. & gravy. Yorkies if they fancy them.
Tue: Hubby not home for tea. Grilled ham & pineapple sarnies w/salad.
    Wed: Bonfire "do"...eating out! :)
Thurs: Chicken & pepper ghost spaghetti (just white spaghetti sauce made with condensed mushroom soup/veggies but ds named it & it stuck).
    Fri: Leftover chicken...burgers & salad.
Sat: Sausage meatball spaghetti bolognese w/garlic bread
Sun: Leftover meatballs with mac n broccoli cheese.

Hiya everyone and a warm welcome to the new peoples :hello:

Coxy - sorry but have to up my budget for the month. I was struggling anyway but now my DS2 (hollow legs) is coming to stay for about a week this month :j So please can I make it £250 for November.

I am finding the supermarket 3 for £10 a bit lame though when it comes to chicken as you only get 2/3 breasts and they let out a lot of water/shrink terribly.
Sorry but only just on here as start November today :)

I buy my meat at the butcher (24 miles round trip so bulk buy) as don't think SMs is very good quality generally. Morrys is ok for legs of lamb and lamb chops (not often as expensive). Best buy I've found this year is Al*i for fresh chickens, breasts and thighs. They often have offers and it's quite tasty for the price, so tend to get a couple of packs when cheap and do a cook-in.

I'm still trying to use stuff out the freezers where possible and s-t-r-e-t-c-h things a bit further. I am watching with interest the moves by Morrys, stating they are going to price-match with Al*i and L*dl, and will see how it goes as I can just as easily shop at either. I have already stopped using A*da and Mr S (apart from a few things can only get there) due to higher prices, and now am finding Mr T is quite expensive for most things though tend to have some good YS. Very best YS here seems to be MnS but it's a bit pot luck as to timings :D

Well off to shops the morrow as the only day DH not working this week :( so will have to see how we get on. I have quite a list unfortunately and will have to look for bargains.

    BTW £-stretcher has sugar atm at 48 p a bag !!

Hope you all have a super Sunday and best of luck for the month :)

Just popping in. DH spent £8.37 yesterday, on milk and veg and cream for the evening meal.

Now planning meals for today - we have 5 people over for lunch, 2 are staying for dinner. Think I have most things I need, but no doubt will need to pick up a bit more - hopefully there will be leftovers for the week!
