Screen not picking up signal from computer

Trying to sort a desktop PC. The screen is not picking up a signal from the computer. Just says on the screen no signal. I plugged the screen into a laptop and the screen is working with no issue. So know the cable and screen are OK.

Any ideas how to correct the issue inside the PC?

Thank you.

Sounds like defective video output on the PC.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

Sounds like graphics card on PC is knackered.

You need to try the PC with another known good monitor.

If you get no signal on that, you know the base unit has no video output.

If it's a separate graphics card, replace it. If it's graphics onboard the motherboard, you may need a new m/board....

Separate video card either way is probably cheapest

  • Thanks all. If I open the PC box how will I spot the graphics card?

Are graphics card and video card the same?
  • ok , its a desktop machine , and not a tower?

desktop= onboard video the plug will be horizontal orientated
desktop = video card the plug will be vertical orientated

tower= onboard video the plug will be vertical orientated
tower = video card the plug will be horizontally orientated

if it has a separate video card , you will be able to see which card the plug is connected to

there are lots of different fitting video cards

graphics cards and video cards are the same thing

I have seen this before and it turned out to be something embarrassingly simply. On occasion a PC will have 2 video cards - an onboard one normally higher up the case, and a seperate one fitted, normally lower.

If you plug into the onboard one by mistake it probably won't work so jsut check/move the cable if you can. The port is normally blue (VGA) or white (DVI).

If not that then bung the screen and cable onto another PC just to check they are OK.

Yup and some monitors have two inputs, it is easy to switch without knowing and you'll get an issue like this.
