Paris honeymoon - help

I'd third the Quartier Latin / St Michel too; everything within walking distance and a metro ride to further out less romantic vibes.0

yep, and instead of eating on the main strip in the latin quarter, go down the side streets which are lined with little cafes and restaurants that enable you to get a true 'local' paris experience for half the price of the big cafes/restaurants in the tourist area. paris is wonderful-enjoy!0

We stayed in the Hotel Relais Bosquet, close to the Eiffel Tower and transport everywhere else. Loved it there.0

You don't need a travel agent to go to Paris. Have a look at booking.com you can search for hotels by location, price etc and read reviews. Paris Metro is easy to use so doesn't really matter too much where you're staying. Eurostar or cheap flights to get there. Tripadvisor forums are brilliant for any specific questions.0

We just came back from there 2 weeks ago.
The closer to the sights, the more expensive the hotel. We stayed a little way out and got a good deal - we stayed in the Hotel Alane (its on trip advisor if you want to have a look but I would say its a budget hotel, not something you might want for a honeymoon), but I was shocked at how noisy Paris is if the hotel is located in the main streets (which ours was).
Didn't use the Metro, but used the buses which were easy enough - 2 Euro for a journey, and there a machine located behind the driver which you 'validate' your ticket which basically means you can use it on another bus within 90 minutes if you want.
Definitely visit Paris Opera House, it is absolutely stunning - wasn't on our list of things to do actually but we were so glad we did.
Take the stairs to the 2nd floor at the Eiffel Tower - has the advantage of the queue being much shorter and you can stop off at both level 1 and 2 and see the shops, cafe etc.
Hope you find a nice hotel.0 -
Summer 2001 I went to Paris with a friend and we stayed in a small hotel (Hotel des Canettes) in the St Germain area, near Mabillion station. It's a lovely area, packed with cafes / restaurants selling fabulous food, shops, and a nearby metro station so the rest of the city was easily in reach. Even 13 years ago we found the hotel online and booked travel tickets on Eurostar, didn't use a travel agent.
It's a lovely city, and with just one exception that fitted the surly French waiter stereotype, everyone was really helpful.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
There are some really good hotels around the Montparnasse Tower (theres even a Best western), which also has some really good eateries that do set price meals which include wine and coffee.
Have a great time.0 -
But if travelling there via eurostar then montparnasse is on the inconvenient side of town
Anyways - depending on where you live fly or take the eurostar to gare du nord
for hotels - check those above; research on hotel sites (my favourite is booking.com), may also want to check http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/united-kingdom/index.shtml (big french hotel chain with a range of brands from super-cheap (f1) to luxury - 200 hotels in Paris
if there are big attractions you want to see it's worth making a list and then picking your hotel based on that0 -

I agree with this suggestion. This beautiful hotel is in the 7th arrondissment and is a 5 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower. The area (Rue Cler) has wonderful cafes, restaurants & shops - Cafe Marche is a lovely place to sit outside with a drink & watch the world go by. 7eme restaurant on Avenue Bosquet is also recommended for a lovely French meal. Most of the well known sights are within a 10 - 30 minute walk or just go down to the Seine (5 minutes away) and take a boat trip - a great way to see Paris & you can hop on & off. The metro station is also just around the corner so it's easy to get anywhere in Paris in a very short time.0 -
Many thanks to all for your comments, I am checking all the hotels suggested.0
