No, its a poor wage. Its not OK because we are a rich country. No one would starve but we can do better than this if the country is governed to benefit everyone.0

The impoverished have never had it so good.0

That's never been my point. I don't care how much better off I am than someone carrying water from a well 5 miles away. I want a fair share of my own country's wealth. I don't expect my mates to contribute 50p to the round and tell me that's worth £500 in Outer Mongolia.0 -

Just wondering what people think, this is for a single person, i find this quite high for just one person but i suppose it depends where in the UK you live,
As someone in the support group with a partner this is the exact amount we get a year and that includes rent and council tax plus everything else the list would be too long if i was to add everything, we live ok on that,
As for a working single person on that money what chance to buy their own home marry have children, it just saddens me that in 2014 that £14k seems to be ok or even the norm.
Woh - does anyone earn £14,400 a year?0 -
Yes easily.0

No - it would provide a very basic form of life which is not 'living decently' to my mind.0

I've just worked out my income and spending and it's quite scary when you see it in black and white.
Total income
wage = £580
Tax credit = £117
HB = £69
Total = £766
Outgoings
Rent = £327
C tax = £59
Bus ticket = £53
Elec, Gas, water, Tele lic, = £73
Mobile and Broadband £38
Total = £550
Take off £108 for food for me and the cat and I'm left with the same to fritter away on things like toiletries, cleaning products, replacement fuses, Birthday presents, Christmas presents.etc etc etc
But wait, It would be iresposible of me not to have at least three monhts salary to fall back on in case of emergencies so lets say I save half of my remaining. that's £50 a month.
So, in about three and a half years provided I don't have to dip into my savings for a lightbulb, or some other such frippery, I'll have my three month safety net.0 -

It says there council tax is £120 a month however the average band D property is only £90 a month.
So this single person is living in a larger than average property indeed they must be living in the top 1% of properties by values0 -

Support workers pay is crap (similar elsewhere) & that is similar to a friend who delivers plumbing pipes round London.
