Only if they have unfortunate circumstances; the rest can live with their family - but choose not to. It's a peculiarly british thing, look at other cultures in Europe (France, Italy, Spain etc) and even other cultures in this country.
Whilst I agree that some can live with their families, there are, sadly, a lot of young people who have come out of care/foster homes etc, at the age of 17/18 who do not have families with whom they can live.0 -

I know a lot of Italians sister in law is Spanish and we have a fair few French friends. The thing this group of peers all have in common is few live in their own cities, many don't live in their home countries.
This is NOT a peculiarly British thing. In fact, I'd suggest british Young people now are less mobile for work than some other cultures.
There are lots of people working here from other places , so it CANNOT be a British thing! And young people going to cities has been reported on in French papers throughout my youth, I don't know about know, but in Italy its certainly the case, indeed, a lot of otslian educated leave Italy ...a brain drain is a big concern, and my Spanish sil and friends are states, London, Italy and elsewhere based!0 -
Hang on, we're always hearing that young single people should move to where the work is, but now you're saying they should be living with parents.
It's funny how everything's got an oversimplified solution which changes to suit.
...and all threads on here saying adult children should be charged market rates to live at home to 'teach them about the real world'! :rotfl:
Anyway, it's not just people in the early twenties who gave low paid jobs. Is a 40 year old care assistant or shop worker supposed to live with their parents too?0 -

Only if they're caring for the parents. Then they're supposed to move them to the mythical land of 'where the work is' with them so that they can work for 60 hours a week on minimum wage, and spend the rest of the time caring for them. Since they're also expected to work a 90 minute bus ride away, they can sleep on the commute.
Otherwise they're supposed to live in a room in a shared house, hand over 80% of their wages to a landlord, and claim benefits to provide them with money for stamps to write to other taxpayers to say how grateful they are for said benefits.
That's why RM was privatised - think of how much profit there is in all those letters!
(The above is based on the world according to DT. Reality may be somewhat different).Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
