New canon ixus 150 - pics won't upload

Unfortunately the manual indicates that the usb lead is not included in the box ... pretty poor show Canon. The manual shows the required lead as an optional accessory ... Interface Cable IFC-400PCU
Amazon has it ...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-IFC-400PCU-suitable-Digital-Cameras/dp/B0001LJ392/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1413712204&sr=8-1&keywords=Interface+Cable+IFC-400PCU
On the Ixus 150 the port appears to be on the side of the camera under a rubber? cover that you peel back either from one end or the other to reveal different ports.... Merci Oblivion[since blvd Toulon beat the Scarlets 28-18]for your reply.
Having just seen the price of that 'extra', No Thank You! and I say it's poor twice over:
[a] that a possible essential isn't included
that if , as looks likely in my case[but clearly not for others]this will be necessary to make my pics tfr, it is retrogressive, not progress, not even status quo[see#5]
Just now, 'found new hardware, but may/does not work on your computer' showed in a speech balloon, lower r/h cnr briefly, then disappeared. The first thing which downloaded the other day from Canon's site was a thing named Ilivid, not sure why. Do I want/need this?CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

iLivid is NOT needed - please uninstall it and run a Malware Bytes Antimalware scan.
I am concerned about your earlier WinRAR comment - I have not provided ANY links to WinRAR or similar. (This sounds like your PC has several oddities going on, of which iLivid may be one culprit).
As to the speech bubble ... I would look in Device Manager, plug in the card reader and then look for anything with a warning triangle or question mark. UNinstall that device (including driver software if that option is offered) then run the Scan for New Hardware option. This might find your card reader and then install the correct drivers.0 -

Yes of course there is an alternative.
Others use card readers successfully. You appear unable to do so. Hence the search for an alternative.
Actually, I find it far simpler to connect my camera via a cable than to go looking for a card reader.
There is always an alternative.

Thankyou so much bod - I thought it odd, but it's what downloaded from the Canon site.
Right, that msg reads 'USB device not recognised. One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.' and it keeps making a little popping sound and renewing itself, hence allowing me to correctly write it here, rather than gist it as earlier.
Shall I follow your #16 instructions straight away or deal with that msg first? Should I click anything in it or not?
re:WinRAR comment.
That's what showed up[did it twice, in case I'd done sth wrong]when I used your 3rd link, #6.

ah, wealdroam - crossposted.
Yes, indeed, there IS always an alternative...but only ever ONE in the world of this grammarian:-)
re: 'far simpler to connect my camera via a cable than to go looking for a card reader.' - surely you have mc slots in your hard drive? Also, my prev. successful card-reader just remains in a usb slot, ready for me to use.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

The 3rd link of #6 gives me a page that offers various downloads. Item 4 of that list takes me to this page ...
http://pdisp01.c-wss.com/gdl/WWUFORedirectSerialTarget.do?id=NGE4MWQyNTBk&cmp=ABX&lang=EN
... where it asks for the serial number of the camera. Please enter your product serial number in the field below and press 'Submit'
If YOU are not seeing this then it indicates that there is something seriously screwy with your computer - not being able to access the photos on your camera is the least of your worries. In fact I'd rather NOT receive any email attachments from you whilst your computer is showing such obvious oddities! :eek:0 -
I've entered serial no. several times, attempting to d/l correct bit.
bod, what shall I delete from above posts, if some of what I've included alarms you? Just give ll. no's.
This: 'something seriously screwy with your computer' is a given round here - happens to phones and putahs. in this little bit of Fens - known for it. Lost e'thg from phone earlier this week, then had no net for day and a bit, eventually talked back with provider. They have no explanation but can always see sthg odd is going on and there is a decade-long history of this.
By fluke, some years ago, had shop person ask whether this was in X[village].
Somewhat surprised, I answered Oui:-)
'That's the reason' said person[by then a Cambridge IT grad.]'Our IT lessons were useless @[village college]...kept dropping and ....had to do it all as theory' , expanding with other putah blahblah over &'s head. He was quite amusing, wondered if his 1st was due to this very factor!
OK iLivid gone.

No you don't have to use a USB cable. It is very likely that you are having problems now, when you didn't previously, due to your adaptor not being able to read SDHC cards i.e. greater than 2GB capacity. 14 years ago the memory card would have been SD not SDHC.
You will be able to buy an SDHC card reader for a lot less than a cable. e.g. here
You don't need to use any additional software. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
