Are you sure of this? Do you have some documentary evidence that he was 100% convinced of its efficacy and that he wouldn’t have endorsed it otherwise?

I have first-hand experience of well-known celebrities who will promote and endorse treatments or products that they know don’t work and is basically a scam. Yet still they do it because it is very lucrative for them and no doubt justify it to themselves by “well if I didn’t do it then someone else would, so it might just as well be me who makes money out of it”.

I’ve no evidence that Beckham would stoop to that level, but I know of many sporting celebrities who would. Hence I wouldn’t just assume that Beckham was totally certain of its effectiveness before signing a lucrative contract to promote it.
I know it's old, but had to respond to this

Mr Beckham, sporting a Power Balance bracelet, which was marketed as a way to improve sporting ability through some alternative science hocus pocus (not their words)

Eventually the company were ordered to stop misleading advertising by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission
"In our advertising we stated that Power Balance wristbands improved your strength, balance and flexibility. We admit that there is no credible scientific evidence that supports our claims and therefore we engaged in misleading conduct in breach of s52 of the Trade Practices Act 1974. If you feel you have been misled by our promotions, we wish to unreservedly apologise and offer a full refund." - Power Balance statement.

In early 2011 the company settled in a class action lawsuit and they ultimately went bankrupt after a AU$9 million loss that year.

Clearly Mr Beckham isn't that careful.

The best way is to get hold of individual sachets of each type of Herbalife's product range, then google the ingredient list. It is amazing just how many cheaper products are made from the same stuff.
