    Morning all :)
Why do people have to park as close to the school gates as they possibly can, congregate all around the entrance while smoking and swearing and walk 4 or 5 wide taking up the whole path on their way home

    Rant over :o
    That feels much better :D
Morning dippy. totally agree with you, inconsiderate people. One lady near me parks her "mum truck" inside the school gates, half on the kerb, as close as she could possibly get without getting her fat a$$ out of the car and walking an extra 20 steps.. really annoys me every morning as this is the 4th week of her doing it now.
ooh, i did a rant too, it must be catching :rotfl:

:o I am, you have a good memory :D. I have mid-end Sept as my official date on my calender to remind me but i am normally early Oct. I'm two weeks out really. But they will be fine. I've currently got 6 ordered. I converted my sis and BIL last year to Christmas cake, made them a small one anyway as i had enough mixture and they have asked for another this year.

Its my food mind calendar. Things that I associate with certain times of year. And your baking is now firmly in mine even though its not something I eat ! :)

We only use Greenhalghs every now and then but never tried their mince pies...one to put on the list for this year :T I would love to make my own xmas cake but always end up getting whoopsied ones on xmas eve from the supermarket as only me and dd2 eat it. Home made sounds so much nicer though :) Shop bought tend to be quite dry

Mum swears by Greenhalgh's. Plus you can freeze them. In fact, I'm going up for a visit on Sat so will ask her to get me some :D

The recipe I've used for the past 5 years is by Ruth Clemens, she was in the final of the Great British Bake off ages back and launched a website called the pink whisk.
    http://www.thepinkwhisk.co.uk/search/boozy+fruit

It is a bit time consuming, the baking takes about 4 hours but you can do a couple of small cakes instead. the fruit keeps too, so long as it's sealed and stirred every now and then. i even used it to make a friend a surprise 40th cake in Feb. over 3 months seeped in rum and brandy, was delicious.

Strewth, I have loads of these stripey spiders in my garden. I always do from about August through to when it starts getting really cold, then they all disappear. All different sizes and some of them make huuuuge webs. They are notorious for making webs across the doors so you get a face full of web first thing in the morning.
I wouldn't touch one but strangely they don't make me shudder the way those big indoor scurriers do......maybe because they're not interested in squatting in my house?

On that note, I have conkers in all of my rooms now and haven't seen a spider since I put them down. Coincidence? Or does it really work? Who knows
