Aww just read nail varnish is off limits as it's a liquid and not allowed. Hth xx
I find the cheap toys on crafty crocodiles are perfect, lots of variety for literally pennies. Just make sure you get a decent sized shoebox, they seem to have shrunk recently, maybe due to the fashion for small ballet pumps?
Ladyshopper, I have heard things about OCC mentioned previously but never really looked into it. I knew it was a Christian organisation, which is fine by me, and to be fair a lot of similar charities offering aid and support etc in developing countries are faith-based, but having done some reading tonight I'd say it's up to each individual whether they're happy with the evangelical nature of it. The charity says they only offer Christianity-based literature when it's requested, but who knows what really goes on.
Anyway, humanism.org website offers this alternative, they're also Christian but apparently do not base their work around evangelism in the same way. http://linktohope.co.uk/shoebox-appeal
Edit, I see mrsB beat me to it
Edit2, I feel I should add, it looks like doctors working for the Samaritans purse are at the front line of working to fight Ebola, so I think it would be wrong to write them off completely. Just my tuppence.0 -

It seems to be the only shoebox charity I could find which gives with no strings attached and doesn't put religious propaganda in the box.
(If you choose to give, give freely. Don't look at it as a chance to convert people to your religion, and don't spend charity money on churches when people don't have enough to eat or medical care!) Pardon my rant.:o
I'm sure there's a Romanian charity too, but can't find it.
Get off your shoe box
But yes I agree.
Seems people want the recognition/benefit of giving rather than the act of helping someone selfleslyWhen The Fun Stops Stop0 -

ouch it was painful and I had to throw all my eye make up away including my beloved smash box brush set that mum had bought me prior to getting married:(
Still haven't replaced them
In the 80s I used to use Pupa from boots. It really was fantastic stuff but not seen for years.
I love the Clinique mascara you have to remove with hot water, only thing I have ever found not to give me panda eyes, L oreal do a fantastic eyeliner that is like a felt tip pen doesn't smudge either.
I love eyeshadow but after I hit 40 stopped wearing blue as doesn't look right now. I basically used the Clinique bags I get when I buy my moisture surge stuff and the Clinique chunky lipstick is fab. Not tried the chunky eyeshadow though.
Last BS glitch I got dd foundation which she says is fab. She only flies part time now but needs very good quality as no time to touch it up.
The Elizabeth Arden gift box they do at Xmas is really good for her as both summer and winter colours and I use feel unique site as often a £10 off code around somewhere.
I love make up but living by the sea I find the weather to harsh so only moisturise (plus serum and nourishing oil). Blow out treat is a Elmis tri enzyme facial. Sublime.

This is the Romanian charity. The boxes go to various countries in Eastern Europe.
My family and I are doing shoe boxes for them this year. We have made up 6 already and will be doing another 2. I will drop off the 8 boxes to my area collector next weekend.
It can work out quite expensive to fill these boxes. However, this particular charity have set a challenge for people to try fill a box for no more than £10.
All the info you need is on the website.
I have no problem with the Samaritans, or with them including religious material with the boxes. However, I have gone with the Link to Hope shoe boxes as they are less fussy than the Samaritans (who have a fair few restrictions) about what goes in them, which makes it easier to find things in a reasonable price range. For example liquid items such as shower gel etc. are allowed.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

We can still help cjj
The Operation Christmas child thing did seem overly religious so not my cup of tea but there are plenty of other links posted up today for things to do. Thanks for heads up Ladyshopper.
