As for your toilet problem.....as you know, I have a bit of a germ phobia myself. That particular issue doesn't cause me stress, like it does you though. I find being satisfied that I've cleaned the bathrooms thoroughly is enough for me. I clean my bathrooms a lotand Im not ashamed to say I don't share one with my kids, because they are grotty beggars :rotfl::rotfl:
Seriously though, children don't understand things like this and they are forgetful. Sometimes as an adult you just have to accept that them being children will affect you in a way you don't want it too and you won't like. For me I try and remember that Im the one with the abnormal phobia.......and they are the normal ones, doing normal things that children do. It helps
So, it's quite normal for "normal people" (for want of a better first word, :rotfl::rotfl:I don't mean it that way;)) to have little scaredoms like this. The difference or thing then is, in my view, that you then handle it pragmatically - because, as a "normal" person, you're (probably) more able at doing that. In the way you 'deal with it' and it doesn't cause you much stress.0 -

I wouldn't say its normal. In my case, I know why I have that phobia......I've had it for a while but I haven't always had it. It's a result of something traumatic that happened that I won't go into to just now.
It's the like the spider phobias etc. that we were talking about recently. Some people knew why they were scared, some didn't but most knew it was irrational.
Oh and I don't mind you calling me normal:rotfl: even though my whole family would probably disagree with you :rotfl:

I can't see how that can be true though as the flush will hit the water then shoot back up and hit the lid. To shoot out the sides it would need to turn a 90 degree angle wouldn't it  I will have to try and pretend I havent read this and trust Kim Woodburn who has lots of good advice including putting the lid down
Either way, seat up or down, germs spurt out. There is no way to avoid germs - they are all over the place, in the air, everywhere, but they rarely make us ill. If you hang your washing outside on the line, flies will land on it and take off again - there will always be 'germs' somewhere. If you have it on show indoors, dust in the air will settle on it. In short, we, the whole planet, is surrounded by dirt, germs (that don't usually harm) and dust. Just don't worry about it - and don't worry about germs from toilet flushes, as whatever way it is flushed, it's going to happen anyway - and be so tiny, microscopic amounts as to cause no harm. Just keep your toilet hygienic, in other words clean and smelling fresh, with the usual rim blocks/toilet cleaners, and you'll be fine. I know - never as easy as said to say "don't worry".
If anything, toilet seats and even bowls etc. are usually the cleanest places in the house as people are so conditioned to them being dirty, probably because of what goes down them. It's computer keyboards and chopping boards we need to worry about - those are often very dirty places. The kitchen surface is probably a more unsafe place to put food than the toilet seat is, just because of how often we (people generally) clean our toilets.
However, don't worry about it all - just get on with life! These things pan out fine the vast majority of the time - and, you're not seriously ill, coughing, spitting up blood, anything, real fever or anything, so don't worry. The human body is very adaptive and able to cope. All of us, occasionally, become ill - usually not so severe, usually fever or stomach bug for a few days and then we get over it. As we become adults, it's less likely as the immunity we have built up in childhood. If you become ill, then deal with it then. Just keep things reasonably clean and hygienic, don't be or become obsessive about it, be reasonably safe, and you'll be fine! Don't eat eggs beyond best befores, but otherwise, unlike use-bys, they can often be safely ignored. Common sense:laugh:.0 -

You knew what I meant.
I think it is pretty normal for people to have worries about hygiene things. Possibly mainly women to have such worries, although I never want to inject sexism into it. "Normal" people seem to worry or concern themselves with a lot of things that seem irrational to me (or maybe even to themselves when they step back - that's if they are capable of doing so - and are no longer in the situation or are able to look at it objectively). The bizarre beliefs, in certain areas, about certain things, that the vast majority of the population appear to hold...(:rotfl:)0 -

I had a look in Asda this afternoon for the Rjcoas which was on clearance for under £4, sadly non in my store.
There was also a Lindermans rose in clearance down to £4 I think??. None left either.
I think I need to visit the wine section in Sada more often - often seem to have clearance wines with £2 or £3 off.
I did find one bottle of Calvert red reduced to £4 with a competition neck collar - sadly the draw closed at the end of April“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. The germs (some of them) will travel upwards, hit the bottom of the seat and then be directed projectile to shoot out and reach much farther. Whereas if the seat isn't down, they (some of them) will simply drift upwards and float around and not get as far. Not that you wanted to read any of this blunt and honest assessment. But, as I said, don't worry as it's absolute miniscule amounts that will cause no harm.

I know - it curls doesn't it to talk or think() of it like that - but, really, there's dust everywhere anyway!:rotfl:0 -

Yes I've been adding boiling water to loosen it - comes out like custard“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove.
