OK...so I knew this moment would happen at some point..I just didnt know when.
DS1 is 16 almost 17 and has delared this morning that he's been invited to his first all night house party on saturday....I have mixed emotions on it mainly over the numbers being invited so what would you do...
Apparently there is a list onthe common room wall inviting all sixth formers,I'm told that he wishes to go along with about 100 others, and its being held in a barn on the farm owned by the family...
He needs to take with him something to drink and from what I can gather he is happy to take something like carling zest or similar...
I know these things are part of growing up and dont want to come over all heavy handed etc but wanted to throw it open for a few observations from others if I may....
I really dread this age...and understand your predicament. Our maternal instinct is to protect them, wrap them up in bubble wrap but the true reality is that we need to let them experience "life in the real world"....(then again my DD and DS are no where near this age yet)
Is he sensible?
are the friends he would be going with sensible?
has he drank before...more importantly knows when he's had enough?
do you know exactly where the barn is?
has he made plans of how he will get home?
you don't have to reply to these but they may help you make up your mind as to how you handle the situation
On the plus side he's has been very upfront with you, not sneaking of to a "sleepover"0 -
Hi DeeDee
Can I ask are these instore or HD/CC please? Sorry I can normally tell but this time I haven't a clue!

There are some on a.com that are 2.70/2 for £3 but they 1.50 on msm (I assume these are the ones DD is talking about as the apg will go on the price paid in store)There comes a time in every woman's life when the only thing that helps is a glass of champagne ... Bette Davis0 -

Oh dear, it's a horrible time Isnt it? But it comes to us all. To be honest, I don't think the numbers matter that much. If anything is going to go on, it'll go on whether there's 3 of them or 100.
I think if he's a sensible lad and you feel that he's mature enough then why not? It's finding a balance between giving them freedom and not allowing them to do stuff.......which will cause problems at home possibly?
Of course you won't sleep all night, you might not have much hair left in the morning and you'll take the phone with you Everytime you go to the loo.....but you'll survive:rotfl:
I always try to think back to myself at that age. I was doing things I wouldn't want my children doing  and usually when Id been told I couldnt....... Giving him a bit of freedom and showing him you trust him will do wonders for your relationship. If he messes it up, then he'll learn from it. Good luck0 -

Good morning...
All very strange this morning, we are all blue instead of green:)
hope everyone is well, its just started pouring with rain again...just in time for the nursery run:(
I took a chance and did another choc shop for this morning...epic fail..
Thorntons £1.50
Snickers £2.69
Thing is the Thornton bags are identical...no change to the 50p ones.. same weight, same wording on the back..strange0 -

He needs to take with him something to drink and from what I can gather he is happy to take something like carling zest or similar...I have said I would rather be involved in the purchase of whatever he takes than have him wander into a supermarket to try to purchase something that would be too strong and indeed put him in trouble.....but again therein lies the question of what is acceptable to take and in what quantity.
I know these things are part of growing up and dont want to come over all heavy handed etc but wanted to throw it open for a few observations from others if I may....
Do you know any of the other parents? Perhaps you could call a couple and see what they are planning? I don't have children but going on my own 16-17 year old self ... a few cans of lager/cider should be fine (checking the % to make sure it's not the strong stuff) just make sure he knows that he can call you in an emergency no matter the hourThere comes a time in every woman's life when the only thing that helps is a glass of champagne ...
