Brennan's Batch plain - heal toasted with loads of butter.
  • Right.. Pet Hate in sandwiches. Lettuce....... well not necessarily lettuce itself, more the incorrect placement of said leaves within the sandwich..... Lettuce should NEVER come into contact with any liquid/fluid/moist filling within the sandwich be it mayonnaise, pickle, whatever.... it makes it go all soft and gooey and just wrecks a good sandwich..... for some reason a lot of sandwich companies have not cottoned on to this rule.....

NO !!! Still gives you soggy Lettuce !!
You need a dry/solid barrier filling between the lettuce and the gooey stuff...
EG... Ham, slice of cheese, lettuce and mayo. The Lettuce should be separated from the Mayo by the Ham &/or Cheese.

No Barrier Filling = No Lettuce

Just to clarify however... this rule is not applicable if a sandwich is being eaten straight away after preparation as the lettuce will not have the time to go soggy...

Just to clarify if making a sandwich with lettuce it has to be bread lightly buttered, ham with salad cream, lettuce, ham and then bread?
  • I make my mum a sandwich regularly. One slice of bread cut diagonally. I always find that if I turn over one of the triangle sides before buttering, they always fit better together.
